So you've written a book. Good for you! Now it's time to embark on the mysterious, dangerous journey to getting published. There are pitfalls (...) all along the way, and, unfortunately, many writers tend to fall right into them. The biggest and most insidious (...) out there is PublishAmerica. They publish just about anything that is submitted to them. 'Atlanta Nights' is a book that was accepted by Publish America (PA) even though it was deliberately written to be horrible. (You can Google the title of the book to learn more about it.) Check out this tome written by one of the founders of PA, 'How To Upset a Goliath Book Biz : PublishAmerica: The Inside Story of an Underdog with a Bite'. This book is filled with such ridiculous, idiotic contentions that it is laugh-out-loud funny.
Fortunately there is help. The following books are helpful to all writers. But most of all trust your heart. And do your research. (ie if you type the name of the publisher into Google, how many of the results are negative? Go to writing forums and ask about the regulars' impressions of particular publishers, and most of all, see if you can find the books on actual shelves. While Halfvalue.com is a wonderful website, it can be difficult sometimes to distinguish good from bad.)
