| You just wrote a review on your favorite item on Halfvalue.com. You come back a day later and see that "1 out of 1 people found this review helpful". Then weeks later, it says, "1 out of 2 people found this review helpful". That means that one person did not find your review helpful. Or better yet, clicked the "NO" button. Or, to be more specific, gave you an "unhelpful vote". You might get upset and even wanna find out who gave you that unhelpful vote. Well, before you go off the deep end, let me give you a few reasons why you probably got that unhelpful vote: 1. Your review isn't about the product. For example, if you review 50 Cent's album, 'The Massacre', and all you say is, "50 Cent sucks, listen to Immortal Technique instead," expect an unhelpful vote. This also goes for if you think an artist is cute: if your Backstreet Boys 'Never Gone' review only talks about how sexy Brian is, expect at least one unhelpful vote. 2. Your review is inaccurate. Please get the facts and background information straight about Mariah Carey before you start writing that 'The Emancipation of Mimi' review. If you're unsure about a fact, either look it up or just stick with reviewing the album. 3. Your review is in the minority. In the middle of all of the five-star reviews for 'Titanic', you give a two-star review and say that it wasn't so great, you may get the "NO" button clicked. Even though it's only your opinion, you may be considered a "hater" (more on that later). 4. You don't realize that this is a review section and not a forum. Any talk about Michael Jackson's personal life needs to be saved for a chat room or forum and not on the 'Invincible' page. 5. You like something that most reviewers don't like. If you absolutely liked the movie, 'Speed 2 - Cruise Control', and others didn't, you'll write a four/five star review that'll probably get some unhelpful votes. 6. You dislike something that most reviewers like. See #3. 7. You're reviewing something that didn't even come out yet. You shouldn't even be able to do this but if a movie or TV show didn't come out on DVD yet, what's the point of reviewing it based on hearsay or how the packaging will look (i.e., 'The Simpsons - The Complete Sixth Season'). And no, we don't really care about if you've seen all of the episodes so it makes no sense listing every single episode summary. You'll most likely get an unhelpful vote. 8. Your review is biased. If you give 2Pac's 'Loyal to the Game' album five stars and your username has the name "Tupac" or "Makaveli" in it in addition to you giving every other 2Pac album five stars, you may get an unhelpful vote. 9. You're complaining about not getting your purchase in the mail. This kind of "review" gets the most unhelpful votes ever. People are sick of seeing these complaints in the review section. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page, there is a selection for feedback or to contact Halfvalue. One more thing, even if you write a great, thorough review and get an unhelpful vote, DON'T TAKE IT PERSONAL!! For all you know, someone accidentally clicked "NO" instead of "YES", is being a hater, or just doesn't agree with your review. Opinions are like you-know-what, everyone has one, so be proud of your review. No matter if 0 out of 2,000 people found your review helpful, stand by it. Don't spend all of your time proofreading it to see what someone might disagree with. Stand by your review. So go ahead and start writing your 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Presents America (The Book): A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction' review and make sure it's good! I hope you found this guide helpful (and if not, that's okay). |
