Millions of people out there right now are slogging off to jobs that they, well, hate. They’re not doing it out of the goodness of the hearts. They’re not doing it because there really isn’t anything else they’d rather be doing. They are doing it because they have to, period. Ask any one of them: “wouldn’t it be nice if you could work less and earn more?” More than likely, they'll make the same face that you made when you saw the title of this guide (the face that said, “well, duh!”). Of course it would be nice! Unfortunately the streets aren’t paved in gold and that tree that money grows on (the one your mother was always talking about) hasn’t suddenly appeared in your back yard. So, like so many Americans, you resign yourself to the grim reality that confronts you: put in your forty a week, if you’re lucky stash a little in savings, and wait for the day that you can retire and live off of Uncle Sam’s hand-outs. The good news is: that only has to be your reality if you choose it. There are thousands of ways to make extra money out there if you open your eyes and look for them. You can start your own business, invest the money that you have, change careers, or move up in the company that you already work for. Plenty of people already are doing what, right now, you can only dream of: working less and earning more. All you need is a friendly kick in the butt and some good reading material and you can be one of them. CHANGE YOUR DESTINY The first step toward financial freedom is an investigation of what else is out there that can provide you with an additional income. Believe me there is plenty, and nine times out of ten, you don’t need a fancy degree or a legion of financial advisors to take advantage of them. I recommend checking out Vending Business-In-A-Box: A step-by-step guide to starting a profitable vending business without getting burned immediately. The author was working 80 hours a week for an up-and-coming software company when he got started in vending. Before long, he’d left said company (and the six-figure income they’d paid him) to work forty hours a week developing his own vending company. Ultimately, he made a LOT more money. Another great book to check out is eBay Secrets: How to create Internet auction listings that make 30% more money while selling every item you list. If you want to explore the possibility of opening up another stream of income, but want to do so with minimum risk and investment, then selling some things on eBay is the way to go. Also remember, before you can change your destiny, you need to narrow your focus; decide exactly what it is you want, and why. Clarity in your personal life paves the way for financial clarity. One excellent book to help you with this is What Color Is Your Parachute? 2005: A Practical Manual for Job-Hunters and Career-Changers. Some others to check out are: Pursuit of Passionate Purpose: Success Strategies for a Rewarding Personal and Business Life Now, Discover Your Strengths The 8th Habit: From Effectiveness to Greatness Automatic Wealth: The Six Steps to Financial Independence PLAYING MONOPOLY WITH REAL HOUSES: INVESTING IN REAL-ESTATE Real estate offers enormous potential for those who are willing to take risks. Sure, CD ladders and IRAs may be safer, but they also don’t offer the potential for a gigantic return on investment. Whether you purchase properties to rent, buy homes to renovate and then resell, or decide to get a real-estate license so you can work for a large brokerage firm, there is always money to be made in real estate. Some good books to check out to help you evaluate whether or not real estate is for you are: Investing in Real Estate, Fourth Edition The Pre-Foreclosure Property Investor's Kit: How to Make Money Buying Distressed Real Estate -- Before the Public Auction 21 Things I Wish My Broker Had Told Me: Practical Advice for New Real Estate Professionals. And 36 Other Key Financial Measures The Beginner's Guide to Real Estate Investing Building Wealth One House at a Time: Making it Big on Little Deals Nothing Down for the 2000s: Dynamic New Wealth Strategies in Real Estate Financing Secrets of a Millionaire Real Estate Investor A CAREER IN SALES: IT’S NOT AS SCARY AS YOU THINK Sales professionals, for all the heckling they get, actually can make tons of money. The great thing about sales is, you don’t really need any special qualifications, just a drive to succeed and a willingness to work. If you’re sick and tired of punching that time clock, making the transition into sales may turn out to be the best decision you’ve ever made, for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, the commissions can be truly awe-inspiring, and getting an enormous check makes all that heckling worthwhile. Secondly, no matter what line of work you are in, your ability to sell will prove invaluable time and time again, so it never hurts to learn how to do it.
