| I've been slowly gathering a shop full of woodworking tools during the past two years. I've bought four tools recently that I wish I'd bought sooner: 1. 'Kreg K2000PP ProPack Pocket Hole Jig' - If you're going to make any type of cabinet, get this tool. It saves a lot of time and makes perfect joints. 2. Good dado blade - I bought a cheap dado blade and was always disappointed with the performance. I recently bought a Systimatic Superfine dado, and I now look forward to making dadoes and grooves. 3. Jointer - I spent several months edging my stock with a straigh edge and router. It takes a loooong time, and it's not very accurate. Then I bought a 'Delta JT360 Shopmaster 6" Stationary Jointer', and now I perfectly edge my stock in a few minutes. 4. Books - I've recently bought several books, and they have greatly improved my understanding and skill level. Try 'The Complete Illustrated Guide to Joinery', 'Trim Carpentry and Built-Ins (Build Like A Pro)', and 'Understanding Wood Finishing (American Woodworker)'. I also subscribed to Fine Woodworking and Woodworker's Journal. And the best advice I ever got: Don't buy cheap tools. Wait until you can afford something nice. You'll be happier, your projects will go quicker, and the end product will be better. Jeff |
