| The reason I am writing this guide is very simple. I have seen numerous lists, guides, and reviews that say today's popular music is horrible, and older music is alot better. I am one of those rare kids that appreciates both old and new music equally, and i want more people to see it that way. Also, so many people these days only like bands/artists that haven't "sold out." That's gay. You should like MUSIC for the MUSIC, not what musicians have done to achieve commercial success. If a band has "sold out" but the MUSIC still sounds good, I'll still like em. People should stop caring so much about all that crap and just listen to and enjoy the MUSIC And if you don't like my viewpoint on that, tough. Go ahead, give this guide one star, I don't care. Just remember that it's the MUSIC that matters. So, without further ado, her we go... Why Should You Appreciate Old Music? Old music pioneered most of the popular music out right now. Without the old greats, most of today's music would sound very different. Old music still plays a critical role in popular music's sound. Basically, theres a little bit of the old greats in all modern music; and to call yourself an expert in modern popular music, you need to know a little bit about the old stuff too. Below is a list of the best albums from the most influential old bands: 'Back in Black' 'Appetite for Destruction' '1984' 'Toys in the Attic' 'London Calling' 'Ramones' 'Forty Licks' 'Slippery When Wet' 'Alive' 'Master of Puppets' 'Disintegration' Why Should You Appreciate New Music? As stated above, theres a little bit of old music in all popular music. While many people don't think modern musicians are as talented as old ones, I disagree. You've got to be pretty talented to match the greatness of the above bands, and most modern bands do. Sure, they don't sound exactly alike, but who's to expect that? Everything changes over time, including music. Many people think it's a bad change; I think it's good. With soaring vocals, pounding drums and amazing guitar riffs; music has taken a step further for the good. Besides, think about this: In 20 years, these bands will be listed as the greats, and they are already really influential. So, respect them for not only what the are doing now, but for the influence they'll have on future music. 'Hybrid Theory' 'Enema Of The State' 'The Colour and the Shape' 'To The 5 Boroughs' 'Dookie' 'Korn' 'Significant Other' 'Nevermind' 'Ok Computer' In Conclusion I hope I've helped you to gain an unbiased opinion on both old and new music, no matter what your age is. |
