| Well, you have come to the right guide! Guitar.... THE instrument of rock..... You want to hear the best? Is it that you want to revisit your old days when guitar in popular music was amazing? Or perhaps you are like me... A teenage guitar-player who after looking through the video store in 2004 had to retreat to classic rock wondering where all the music went..... Well, this sixteen year-old hears your cries. The British Invasion We could go back further than this, but due to the amount of money that would cost you, I recommend you begin here.... With Keith Richards..... First you must have 'Out of Our Heads'. It has "The Last Time" and "Satisfaction", two of their most timeless classics. Next you should get the Stones equivilent of Rubber Soul (big step forward, all originals, etc.) 'Aftermath'. This has two hits and a really cool lengthy song to close it. The next of their necessaries started the run of albums that led to calling themselves the best rock n roll band of all time, 'Beggars Banquet'. I can see why with songs like "Street Fighting Man" and "Sympathy For The Devil". 'Let It Bleed'. The last album on their original contract. Their last attempt at straight-ahead blues. The death of Brian Jones. Two hits, as usual. Also, a parody of their hit from earlier that year. Their next album is often considered their best, 'Sticky Fingers'. It has my favorite Stones song, "Wild Horses" (Not my usual song-type choice). My favorite album of theirs is their double, hugongous, gimantic 'Exile on Main Street'. GOTTA LOVE IT I know, 'It's Only Rock N Roll', but I like it!!!! 'Some Girls'. Their best of their late 70s work. The next man we shall graze the awesomeness of is probably the best rhythm guitar player EVA.... Mr. Peter Townshend 'The Who Sings My Generation': Pete and The Who's rockin' debut with their timeless classic title-track In 1967, when The Who heard Hendrix (who we will get to later) and Sgt. Pepper's... they made a psychedelic concept album of their own, 'Sell Out'. Best live album of all time? 'Live at Leeds' of course! Widely considered their masterpiece, 'Who's Next' stands out as one of the greatest albums to touch an LP player in the world. My favorite album of theirs is their mature double rock-opera, 'Quadrophenia'. 'Who Are You' CSI, baby!!!! (RIP Keith Moon) Psychedelic sounds JAMES MARSHALL "JIMI" HENDRIX No words necessary... 'Are You Experienced?', widely considered the best debut album ever. So many different sounds are explored in 'Axis: Bold As Love'. One of the greatest guitar albums OF ALL TIME is 'Electric Ladyland'. Hendrix was not just a studio player 'Band of Gypsys'. One of the most romantic, sensual guitar sounds come from this man called Carlos Santana.... You gotta stop your evil ways with 'Santana' 'Abraxas', sophomores can be rightfully cocky sometimes (did I mention I am a sophomore?) 'Santana 3' 'Caravanserai' Isn't that just great? The Yardbirds This British-invasion band gets its own section in my list. You shall see why.... -Slowhand- Clapton is one of the greats. He is possibly the classiest of them all. 'Five Live Yardbirds'-Clapton was only in the Yardbirds for a short amount of time before deserting them for the more bluesy 'Bluesbreakers With Eric Clapton'. Cream is one of the best power trios of all time (Rush es mi favrito). They released the excellent psychedelic album 'Disraeli Gears' and the live/studio double album 'Wheels of Fire'. After adandoning Cream he was in 'Blind Faith' with Steve Winwood and Derek and The Dominos with Duane Allman. 'Layla' may be his masterpiece. He eventually became a solo artist and released '461 Ocean Boulevard' and 'Slowhand' which are probably his necessary solo efforts. -Jeff Beck- A hugely underrated player... 'Roger the Engineer'-Definitely the best Yardbirds CD you will find anywhere. He formed the Jeff Beck group after leaving and his best releases are 'Truth', 'Beck-Ola', and 'Blow by Blow'. -Jimmy Page- Jimmy Page is my personal favorite guitar player and is the main member (IMO) in my personal favorite band (I am not alone, you will find). Unfortunately, he only had one Yardbirds album and it is not very good, BUT the NEW Yardbirds.... 'Led Zeppelin 1', 'Led Zeppelin II', 'Led Zeppelin III', 'Led Zeppelin IV (aka ZOSO)', 'Houses Of The Holy', and 'Physical Graffiti'. Just get 'em. this list shall continue..................... |
