If we believe that history repeats itself, and in many ways it does, understanding history means we have a much better chance at creating a brighter future. History books (which can cover wars and conflicts, biographies of historical figures, or eras from the past) enlighten us, entertain us and make us better, more educated citizens. History books are often controversial, but rarely dull. Truth can very well be stranger than fiction, and the events of our past are filled with some of the most amazing tales ever recorded. As the cost involved in producing a history book is substantial--a writer must carefully research a subject, an editor must then give the book its focus and shape, and fact-checkers must ensure accuracy--there is little room for error on the part of the publishing industry. History books will generally represent the best information on a subject we have, though there are exceptions to this rule. Surprisingly, with all of these costs involved in producing the manuscript, the price to the consumer is remarkably low, and one of the best bargains in the publishing world. That being said, history books tend to be more expensive than, say, fiction, but not as expensive as technical manuals or art books which are often printed on expensive paper. History books will delight readers as much as any other type of book, and as they cover well-known subject matters like World War II, there are sure to be multiple volumes on the same topic, thus allowing a reader the opportunity to truly understand an era and compare different attitudes about the same events. History books are continually published, and often make the best seller lists for non-fiction.
