The cost of books has risen sharply in recent years, and while our appetites for novels, biographies, self-help books, cookbooks, and histories remains high, our wallets can't always allow for it. Bargain books, which can be anything from discounted new titles to older volumes that simply have not yet sold, can be an affordable alternative for any bibiliophile. These savings allow a reader to obtain titles for his or her collection that might otherwise have been passed over.
Bargain books represent more than discarded, unwanted, or obscure volumes. The classics, for example, are part of the public domain and are available to be printed by any publishing house; therefore, they can always be found in bargain editions. Foreign language titles may only be available at a discount in different translations than the one you are seeking, but any English work will contain absolutely identical text, whether the particular edition is expensive or cheap.

As the general habit is to desire newer things, books from only a few years ago are usually in less demand than more recent titles. You may come across an old volume of particular interest to you, but not the general public, and in the process save a substantial sum of money.

Unlike the worlds of bargain clothing or furniture where the idea of "bargain" typically means either "used," "worn," or of significantly lower quality, bargain books are a delightful treat for those in the know, and a pleasant discovery for those discovering them for the first time.
