More and more people are entering the world of music via becoming a DJ. The guitar, while still quite popular, is no longer the de facto instrument of choice among today's youth. Many kids today are really interested in becoming a DJ, and for them finding a set of DJ equipment is vital. The problem is that DJ equipment can be quite expensive.So what are the basic elements of a DJ's equipment? First and foremost, the budding DJ has to have music to mix. Second, they have to have something to play this music on. This is where it can get expensive. DJs have to have a playback device that will play at least two pieces of music at once so they can "mix" the music. In addition, a good DJ setup will include a sound system with a decent amplifier, usually a microphone, and headphones. DJs these days will often also add a drum machine and perhaps a good laptop computer, especially if they are using digital loops, or mp3s. This is quite a shopping list if you don't happen to have any of these items. Fortunately, you can find much of this DJ equipment used.
Finding good used DJ equipment is largely a matter of looking through classifieds and perhaps here online at musical instrument outlets. You will likely have to make some serious format decisions early on, as that will determine what type of player you purchase. Additionally, you might be able to forgo some of the pieces of equipment if you plan on working in clubs that allow you to use their amplification systems and microphones.
