| The first Tiger Woods golf video game was released in 1998 by EA Sports for the original PlayStation system, and was titled Tiger Woods '99. The following year, EA chose to rename the franchise by including the phrase "PGA Tour" in the title. The first entry in the series to adopt this new label was Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2000 in 1999 when it was released for PlayStation and Game Boy Advance systems. Whether you're playing the first entry in the Tiger Woods PGA Tour series or the latest, the game play between versions is all quite similar. At the heart of the game, players can golf against a variety of pro golfers on numerous real-life courses. Many of these games also feature tournaments and challenges to reward players with upgraded skills and experience. Some versions also allow players to make a virtual purchase of a golf course, or even design and play their very own courses. In 2004, EA Sports released Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 for PC, GameCube, PS2, Xbox, and the Nintendo DS portable system. This 2005 version of the game included popular golfers like Vijay Singh and John Daly, along with Tiger Woods and some senior golfers as well. Players also have the ability to golf on some of the world's most exclusive courses, like Pebble Beach Golf Links and the Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course. The Tiger Woods PGA Tour series was updated in 2005 with Tiger Woods PGA Tour for the PSP. Unusually, this version of the game did not have a year incorporated into its label. Fans can expect updated versions for all systems, as the popularity of this game hasn't waned since its introduction. |
