The Sanyo 8200 phone, compatible with Sprint PCS service, combines practical service and fun features. The 8200 has a clamshell design, weighing just over 3.5 ounces and coming in at just over an inch thick. This makes it slightly larger than other phones of this type, but not prohibitively so. Both the internal and external display offer over 65,000 colors.

The phonebook has a 300-name capacity with picture caller ID capabilities. Voice-activated dialing is available for up to 30 numbers. A PIM organizer comes with the phone, which can be programmed provide reminders for holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, and more. Standard features such as alarm, calendar, and to-do list are also present.

The Sanyo 8200 also features nationwide walkie-talkie communication. The user may communicate one-to-one, or with up to five other people at once. This feature is one of the biggest draws of this models. The handset is available in four different colors: silver, red, midnight blue, and deep forest blue. The standard battery offers three hours of digital talk time and 12 days of standby time. The battery may by upgraded to increase these times to 5.38 hours of talk and 20 days on standby.
