In 2002, Samsung's DLP projection TV was the winner of Popular
Science's "What's New Awards." This prestigious award honors the best
technological developments of the year. That's nice. But what is DLP?
Digital light processing refers to an all-digital display chip, a key
component of the best digital projectors available. DLP technology makes
use of an optical semiconductor in order to recreate source material by
digitally manipulating light patterns. It accomplishes this with a
fidelity that analog systems are unable to match.
The Samsung DLP TV comes equipped with an integrated Samsung HDTV
tuner. It features the Samsung DNIe™ video that enhances all analog and
wideband video inputs. This results in a significant improvement in
picture quality. Samsung DNIe™ improves contrast, white level, and
detail. It also incorporates a digital noise reduction system that will
improve the sound of lower quality videos.
If you have been considering the purchase of a big screen TV, you
might find that conventional projection TVs take up too much space, and
the cost of plasma TVs would require you to take a second mortgage. The
Samsung HLN437W DLP projection set might be a suitable option. While you
can't hang it on the wall, it takes up much less floor space than a
conventional projection television. The 43-inch 16x9 display has HD-upgradable
projection. If you want to receive HDTV television signals, you'll need
to purchase an external Samsung HDTV tuner or secure an HDTV cable or
satellite box. However, even with the cost of these add-on features, the
Samsung DLP is more affordable than plasma.
