Printer ink comes in two main
types: laser printers take toner, and inkjet printers take
printer ink. Both are sold in cartridges and need to be replaced
periodically. Inkjet printer ink can be purchased in office
supply stores or quickly ordered online. If you know the make
and model of your machine, you can order online in moments.
Inkjet printers need to have their cartridges replaced more
often than laser printers, due to the different technologies of
the machines. This can make inkjet printers more expensive to
maintain than laser printers, even though laser printers are
more costly to purchase at the outset. However, there are many
sources for printer ink cartridges; you aren't forced to go to
the manufacturer.
It's a good idea to keep several cartridges on hand, so there
won't be a slow in production when you run out of printer
supplies & accessories. This is especially true in a busy
office. You can buy brand-name cartridges made by your printer
manufacturer, or simply buy cartridges from other sources that
were designed to be compatible with your machine.
Printer ink can also be refilled by hand if you have the
right kit for your machine. A printer ink refill kit will
usually include a cartridge, the actual ink powder, and a tool
for getting the powder into the cartridge. This process can be
time consuming and unwieldy, so many people prefer to simply
order new or recycled cartridges for their machines. However,
tight budgets can be eased if you routinely use an inkjet
printer refill.
