The newest robotic pool cleaners, such as the Aquabot, Pool Rover or Dolphin Dynamic, actually work by themselves to clean your pool automatically. These cleaners, equipped with on-board microprocessors, work like robots in your pool. Robotic pool cleaners can sense the best and most efficient method to travel around the pool and along the sides.

The result? A spotless pool. Robotic and other models of automatic pool cleaners are available for in-ground pools, above-ground pool, and even some portable above-ground models. These high-efficiency cleaners make it possible to enjoy your pool without hiring a cleaning service, as used to be necessary. Another type of pool cleaner uses water pressure to power itself through your pool. Popular pressure-driven pool cleaners are the Hayward Viper, Hayward Phantom, Pentair Legend and the Polaris 300 series. Some of these more-powerful, larger pressure pool cleaners require an additional booster pump to drive it through the water. Suction pool cleaners, such as the Kreepy Krauly or the Hayward Pool Vac Ultra, are also very popular. These pool cleaners use a vacuum function to pass your pool water through a filter or debris bag, as it dives and craws across the entire surface and floor of your pool, leaving your pool thoroughly cleaned every time.

The more popular pool cleaners offer accessories that can be used to make your pool even lower maintenance. Automated chlorinators keep your water crystal-clear and eliminate the need for you to spend an entire weekend trying to "shock" your pool back into submission. Drain covers guard against clogs and keep your pool cleaner from getting stuck on the bottom of the pool. Quality hoses prevent you from getting kinks in your lines that reduce suction and end up damaging the hose.
