Faced with the frustration of putters he considered to be inadequate, Karsten Solheim built the first 1-A putters in his own garage in 1959. Solheim, a General Electric engineer, was more interested in results than aesthetic beauty, and his results quite literally spoke for themselves. Indeed, the sound Solheim's putters made when they hit the ball became their name, and that of the line of clubs and golf equipment that followed: PING.Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Solheim worked to consolidate and oversee the entire process of designing and producing clubs. By acquiring a heat treating plant and a casting foundry, he was able to ensure control over the quality of all of PING's products in a uniquely centralized manner. The 1980s and 1990s saw Solheim's vision truly come to fruition, as clubs like PING's L-Wedge and EYE2 irons gained a prominent and permanent place among the pantheon of golfers' favorites.
Today, PING offers a full array of putters, woods, wedges, and irons--all suitable for tournament-winning professionals and discriminating amateurs alike. Furthermore, PING's long tradition of innovation continues in its prioritization of hybrid clubs, known as G5 Hybrids. These ultra-modern clubs marry PING's reputation for quality design and manufacturing with hybrid technology's capacity to combine the strength of a wood with the accuracy of an iron.
The result, like all of PING's best products, is a high-performance club that can help players of every caliber move their game to the next level. Now run by Solheim's son John, PING continues to focus on improving golfers' games by improving and customizing their equipment. In fact, PING's club fitting capacities are widely considered among the best in the business.
