Notebook computers are more popular
than ever, especially now that they have evolved to the point of
actually being portable in reality and not just in theory.
However, notebook memory often lags behind the other features of
these machines. In order to keep these units light and portable,
companies have equipped them with less memory than we often need
to run our favorite programs and games. Fortunately, it's easy
to upgrade notebook memory and improve the speed of your system.
Too many people think they have outgrown their notebooks when
the system starts to slow down, or is unable to process a new
program with lots of features. Usually, you just need to add
memory. What you need to do first is figure out how much memory
will fit onto your system, and how much you already have. Your
computer's "Properties" tab should tell you how much memory your
system is working with.
Next, you need to find out how much RAM your system can
handle. To do this, simply go to the manual that came with the
computer. If you don't have this, call the manufacturer and give
them the model number. Also, find out what type of RAM you will
need. There are several types, including SDRAM (synchronous
dynamic RAM), Rambus Dynamic RAM and others.
Fortunately, the price for memory keeps dropping. This means
you can keep your notebook up to speed without a major
investment, and with a minimum of service, since it takes just
minutes to install memory. New programs are so feature-rich that
a slow system will become obsolete without periodic memory
upgrades.
