| For those golfers looking to find an edge the Tiger Woods Way, try going platinum. Tiger now uses Nike's newest golf ball in its "colors" line. First there was One Black, then One Gold, and now One Platinum. After watching Tiger playing with the Nike Ignite, Nike's director of product development still saw room for improvement in the ball. The result was the Nike One Platinum. Maximizing the potential of large-headed drivers is the mission behind Nike's newest and smallest creation. The Nike One Platinum ball features a Progressive Density Core, similar to its One Black structure. The soft center is covered by a progressively harder outer shell, for a total of three layers, or covers, beyond the core, like the One Gold. The inner layer closest to the core is meant to reduce spin off the driver. The middle cover is for superior mid-iron control. The outer cover, which is softer than that of the One Gold, is designed for improved feel anywhere on the green. The outer cover features Nike's proprietary pattern of 408 dimples, which is the same as that found on Nike One Black. Promoting a higher trajectory and better penetration through flight, this pattern was fine tuned for maximum game. Though it was designed for large drivers, a golfer using any combination of clubs should benefit from the Nike One Platinum's distance off the tee and ability to carve the wind from the fairway. It may even push you to use a bigger driver in your game. Nike Platinum Ones retail for 54 dollars per dozen, but many sporting goods sources sell them for closer to 40 dollars per dozen. |
