| Memory Stick is a flash-based memory card format developed by Sony and first released in 1998. Typically, Memory Sticks are used to store computer files for easy portability from one computer to another, and to hold pictures taken with a digital camera. Sony's Memory Stick format also allows PSP owners to store saved game information from their handheld PlayStation systems. Although Sony's other consoles, the PlayStation and PlayStation 2, do utilize memory cards, they do not use Memory Sticks. This means that these cards cannot be used for anything else aside from saving game information directly from the system. This is the largest difference between PS storage solutions and PSP memory cards. A PSP Mem Stick is great for saving your game information when you're on the go, but it can also be used for other purposes aside from gaming. Your PSP Memory Stick for saved games could also be filled with pictures, MP3s, and movie clips to view on your PSP console. When you're traveling and would rather do something besides play a video game, these Memory Sticks can be used for other purposes. Because the PSP doesn't have an internal hard disc drive, users must stick to playing games on the system, or purchase a few Memory Sticks that they can fill up with content. If you're planning a trip and will be away from computers for an extended period of time, this could be a worthwhile investment. A Memory Stick could be used to store MP3s to listen to on your PSP, and then popped into your Sony Digi Cam to hold pictures you take, which can then be viewed later on by inserting the Mem Stick into your PSP system. |
