Maxtor

Maxtor is a company that produces and markets computer hard drives. A hard drive is that section of a computer on which permanent and semi-permanent information is stored. Almost all personal computers on the market today come equipped with some type of hard drive, which is perhaps less-widely known simply because it is an internal drive, as opposed to an external one like disc, CD/DVD, and Zip drives.

Maxtor hard rives are used in many different computers, and even some other products such as some television recording devices. Their DiamondMax series is considered by many experts to be one of the higher-quality hard drive offerings. Given the necessity for some sort of readable/writable drive in most complicated electronic devices, Maxtor's products have become more popular as digital technology progresses into more and more aspects of daily life.

Recently, Maxtor has expanded into several new directions. One of these is the external hard drive market. An external hard drive is a hard drive that can be connected to your computer by a cable, providing a place to backup data, or simply for much-needed additional storage. Their Atlas, QuickView, and MaXLine hard drives are some of the industry's more popular offerings.

A closer look at the Atlas line shows some of Maxtor's trademark characteristics. Atlas drives have an incredibly high "seek time" (a number that tends to determine how quickly information off hard drives can be accessed). Their point-to-point connectivity also ensures that these drives provide a high level of compatibility with many different platforms.
