The company, which began with William and Theo Ludwig in 1910, started off with the simple idea of creating a better foot pedal. Perhaps a bit of explanation is necessary. William Ludwig played the drums, and found that the old-style foot pedal he was using was not suited to more modern playing styles. He crafted his own foot pedal replacement, which soon became the envy of other local musicians. Soon after, the Ludwig & Ludwig Company was formed and a long line of innovative craftsmanship was to follow. Today Ludwig has a wide variety of drumming products that they manufacturer. They have everything from rock and roll drum kits to parts and accessories for marching band percussionists. Their CS Custom Elite Series is a great example of a high quality Ludwig drum set. This high powered kit is intended for both rock and rollers as well as jazz and fusion musicians. The CS Custom Elite comes with an 18 by 22 inch bass drum and a tight crisp snare that features a ten lug tuning pattern. These drums are all constructed with eight ply, eight millimeter birch shells, and it comes in four different finishes. This model also comes with a super high quality chain driven bass drum pedal, rubber insulated bass drum claw hooks, and all Ludwig custom hardware. This is a set designed to withstand the rigors of touring and still sound great in the studio or in a small club.
