Let's review the specs for one
of IBM's most popular laptops, the IBM ThinkPad T-40. This
IBM laptop is ideal for workers who travel a lot on business
trips or who simply want a lot of different connectivity
options. Whether you're working from a home base within a
corporate HQ or you're constantly on the move, the IBM
laptop ThinkPad T-40 can withstand the rigors of travel and
deliver quality at an affordable price.
At only 4.5
pounds, the ThinkPad T-40 is easy to tote. Its so-called
"Rapid Restore PC" program allows mobile workers to reboot
their systems and minimizes "start and stop" time. This
feature may not seem that impressive, but when you factor in
how many five-minute chunks the average "slow laptop user"
loses over the years, you can see the appeal. This program
can save users literally dozens of hours per year of
precious business time.
Unlike other small laptops, the IBM ThinkPad T-40 comes
with an exquisitely sized keyboard to protect against
repetitive stress and other ergonomic problems. That said,
the T-40 is not a perfect machine. You need a special
adapter plug to get AC power, and you have to install your
own FDD.
The 14.1 inch display on this IBM laptop gives a maximum
resolution of 1024 X 768 pixels--ideal for business use but
not really good for gaming or video watching. You get 256 MB
of RAM installed, and you can add on to get up to 2.0 GB of
RAM. The T-40 comes with an optical drive, a 1.4 GHz Intel
processor, a touchpad and TrackPoint device, and a number of
ports, including a 56 kBs modem port, an Ethernet port, and
an integrated 802.11 b/g wireless.
