| According to multiple independent
reviewers, Guild Wars is well-worthy of its worldwide
popularity. Fans say that Guild Wars stands apart, fully unique
from other fantasy-themed role playing games. It is praised for
being well-designed, having fun and interesting skill
capabilities, lots of inherent combat action, and a lavish, lush
visual environment. Further, it wins technical salvos for being
easy to load and fast and smooth in play.
The universe of Guild Wars is fairly straightforward. You are
a wandering hero from a beautiful kingdom that's fallen on hard
times under the relentless pressures of an evil, invading army
of bad guys. There are two types of play: Wandering Hero
discovering his country and getting into hijinks along the way,
and group play--where you actually team up with other Guild Wars
players to undertake cooperative quests and missions. Both kinds
of play are said to be action packed and highly tactical.
Guild Wars is a very deep, multi-layered, game experience. It
is potentially very time consuming. Fans say that the "rounds of
play" won't necessarily eat up days--battles and such can be
enjoyably played in 20 minute bursts. But the arc of the game,
the development of the characters, and the realization of all
the fun this game has to offer will cut into more than just a
weekend or two.
Prior to its 2005 Release, E3 (the international expo of
electronic games held annually in Los Angeles) made Guild Wars
the subject of their "E3 for Everybody" event, where over
200,000 gamers tried their hands at the Guild Wars experience. A
new chapter, Guild Wars: Factions, was released in April 2006.
Independent reviewers consistently rate Guild Wars 9.0 and above |
