| The GameBoy product line has proven itself to be highly resilient over the years. Debuting in 1989, the GameBoy has seen advances in technology, as well as assaults from the competition, but still the GameBoy reigns supreme in the handheld market. Nintendo released the GameBoy Advance in 2001, and then in 2003 it released GameBoy Advance SP, yet another upgraded version of the old favorite. The improvements on the GBA SP are subtle yet clearly thought-out. The first change that a person would notice is the clamshell design. The flipscreen means that the screen will be protected when closed and when the GBA SP is not in use. Another improvement is the inclusion of a rechargeable lithium ion battery, similar to those used in cell phones. Another change is an internal frontlight. This means that the display screen remains undiminished in ambient light. Due to certain limitations, Nintendo removed the headphone jack and replaced it with a special jack. A user can either purchase special headphones or an adapter. Many gamers, rightfully, were upset to have to pay extra for this adapter, feeling it should have been included with the GBA SP. All the games available for the GameBoy Advance are playable on the GBA SP. These games include variations on Nintendo standards, like Super Mario Brothers and Pokémon. There are also the GBA versions or games released for the consoles. Just like the GBA, versions of popular older games, including arcade games like Donkey Kong and Pac Man, are also available for the GBA SP. |
