Since the 15th century, the engagement ring has been symbolic of the promise of commitment. But the wedding band is a symbol of the fulfillment of that promise. The selection of bands for both men and women are endless--gold, platinum, plain or diamond wedding bands are among the countless options. Patience and pickiness are in order--after all, you'll be wearing this ring for the rest of your life.A diamond wedding band can complement a solitaire engagement ring, a three-stone ring, or even an antique estate ring passed down for generations. Channel settings, a row of diamonds encased from the top and bottom, are commonly seen on the left hands of today's women. Bar settings, featuring a vertical separation between each stone, is a more contemporary wedding band setting.
Some couples prefer to purchase wedding ring sets. A women's set may feature an engagement ring accompanied by a band with similar detail. Or, a set could consist of two similar bands, one for the husband and the other for his wife. Each marriage is unique--and the rings or ring set should be representative of the personality of the individuals.
Let's not forget about the men. Some men prefer a plain gold or platinum band. Others enjoy the richness of a diamond wedding band. Men's diamond wedding bands come in the same options as those for the women with one exception--size. Men's rings are available in standard sizes seven through 12. Sizes over 12 may require some additional resizing on the part of the jeweler.
