| When it was released, the PlayStation 2 represented a quantum leap forward in terms of graphics, gameplay, and sound. Every aspect of home gaming was made more real--and more intense--on the PlayStation 2. Two competing consoles were released at the same time as the PS2, but the PS2 has still managed to outsell the other two. The PlayStation 2 offers the gamer smooth, lifelike animation in real time. The PS2 also possesses the capability to play DVD movies in addition to games. The biggest complaints about the PS2 are slow loading times and lack of a hard drive. With the PS2, the gamer still has to separately purchase a memory card. With a hard drive, not only would the memory card be rendered obsolete, but loading times would also be significantly faster as well. Arguments can be made for the supremacy of any of the systems, but there is one incontrovertible statement that can be made about the PlayStation 2: it has the largest game library of the three. One reason is that the PlayStation 2 is backwards compatible. That means that it can play all the old PlayStation games, which can be purchased for much less money than PS2 games. Chances are, though, that gamers will only find these cheap PS2 games used. Used games are an affordable way to inexpensively build a collection of cheap PS2 games. Another option is to buy older games. Even the most popular of titles, like the Grand Theft Auto series, will in time be reduced in price by about a third. That means that eventually, all games will be cheap PS2 games. |
