One of the annoyances that traditional film photographers have with digital cameras is that digital shooters simply can't snap fast shots--for the most part. Partly in response to this complaint, Canon developed the nifty DIGIC I and DIGIC II image processors. These fast engines allow photographers to grab onto images with incredible precision and alacrity.

The Canon PowerShot SD-300 features a number of exciting features, including a long battery life, an extremely small dimension for pocket readiness, an all metal exterior, a wide two inch LCD viewfinder, and a bevy of customization options. You can shoot wonderful movies vis-á-vis the SD 300--30 frames per second clips of 640 by 480 are possible, provided that you open up enough space on your memory card.

That being said, the PowerShot SD-300 is not without its drawbacks. Its annoyingly ineffective flash and bobbing zoom make it hard to take really interesting "on the move" shots. In addition, although the camera possesses the ability to shoot a burst of three frames per second, its shutter speeds are all automatic, so you can't really take great sports pictures. Still, you can adapt the camera for underwater use and intuitively change settings for portraiture, indoor shooting, and dim light shooting.

The viewfinder only presents approximately 80 percent of the image, but it tends to work well in practically all but the brightest lights. Even then, you should still be able to see your subjects precisely, albeit with a little ghosting. Be aware that the SD-300's batteries die out pretty quickly after the camera warns you. All told, you will probably only get through 40 more shots before the unit shuts down.
