Amateur or semi-pro photographers will definitely want to take
a close look at the Nikon SLR D70. This camera costs under $1,000
and is able to take advanced prints up to 11 by 14 inches. With
six megapixel resolution, the Nikon D70 gives an unprecedented amount
of flexibility to the photographer. Ideally, you should supplement
the standard memory card with a 64 MB Microdrive.
Some of the features associated with the Nikon SLR D70 include
the ability to customize, employ an advanced drive mode, and experiment
with other small mechanical extras. On the flip side, the D70 doesn't
allow you any pre-shot mirror lockup, nor can you customize with
more than one set of parameters. Furthermore, if you want to edit
your raw film, the necessary software is going to cost you extra
money.
The two inch LCD display is plenty big to review your shots,
and the camera's light weight (only 21.2 ounces) means you can transport
it practically anywhere. Another excellent Nikon SLR model is the
D50. This can be equipped with a 55 to 200 mm lens or an 18 to 55
mm lens. As with the D70, the D50 is ideal for 11 by 14 inch printed
photos. Yet its miniscule viewfinder and poor depth of field may
be inconvenient for some.
What's nice about both the Nikon SLR D70 and the Nikon SLR D50,
as well as Nikon's other digital camera offerings such as the Nikon
SLR D100 and D2H, is that these cameras take excellent images. With
the appropriately equipped memory cards, you can store an entire
vacation's worth of pictures without having to transfer your data
to a computer.
