The JVC GR-DV3000U digital camcorder is a relatively inexpensive, high-quality digital recorder. It's got extremely high-resolution CCDs, fast processing, and a capacious LCD monitor. Consumers have pointed out that this camera has a relatively inadequate special effects library, but unless you're a budding film director, the special effects library is probably not important. A manual focusing ring, digital stabilization, and 1.3 megapixel resolution all make this unit attractive to the average camcorder user.
What's particularly exciting about the JVC GR-DV3000U is its extremely fast aspherical lens. This lens imparts brighter quality images, and you can also use a special feature called NightAlive to shoot in dim conditions. Some camera users complain that the NightAlive feature imparts a sort of greenish tint to file images, but that's a small price to pay for the clear, dim-light video you'll get.
The JVC Company produces a plethora of video and audio technologies. It has won some rather esteemed awards, as well. For instance, in 2001, the company received an Emmy for its contribution to the pioneering development of consumer camcorders. It has also gained worldwide stature by sponsoring some important video and jazz festivals in Japan and other countries.
One word of warning with the GR-DV3000U--you may want to purchase an extra memory card to back up your work. The MiniDV recording format is convenient and safe, but some users may desire extra bells and whistles. Despite its rather large size, this unit weighs less than half a pound--an easy toting weight for even overburdened filmmakers.
