A common misconception about amps, or amplifiers, is that you only
need them for high volume. In fact, having an amplifier can improve the
entire sound quality of your car's stereo system.
By adding a car amplifier to your vehicle's stereo system, you get a
clean power source that will not strain your speakers. The power of the
amp that's built into your in-dash stereo is limited by the space
available. This is not an issue with an external power amplifier. With
an external amp, your music will have a clean sound at any volume.
Furthermore, if you've recently upgraded your car's speaker system, your
in-dash receiver may not be doing those speakers justice. You will
probably need an external car amp to maximize the power needed for peak
musical performance.
Your choice of amp depends on which speakers you intend to power. If
you want to pump up the bass, then you are probably going to power your
sub. A mono amplifier with its built-in bass boost will do the job quite
nicely; you can also choose a dedicated bass amp.
For adding power to full range or component speakers, use a 2 or 4
power amplifier. If you are powering a combination of full range
speakers and amplifiers, a 4-5-6 amplifier will work quite nicely.
Whatever type of amp you choose, rest assured that you will not have any
trouble connecting it to your existing system. Amplifiers are designed
to fit any car stereo system.
