| Well, it started quite simple. Many years ago i bought a brand new 'Apple PowerMac G3 (300MHz PowerPC G3 Processor, 64MB RAM, 6GB Hard Drive)'. I got the 400Mhz model along with the matching 17" monitor. Which i still have. Upgrades I can't begin to tell you the order of the upgrades but i will start you off with the most important, RAM, i've upgraded to 896MB of RAM, the max is 1GB. Another major upgrade is the 'Sonnet Technologies Encore G4/ Auto Bus 500Mhz with 1MB Backside Cache At 2:1 Ratio', i would like to get the 1Ghz, but i hear it's not all that it's cracked up to be. Anyway, this processor is vital. It's one of the first upgrades anyone should make. I recently got the 'ATI Technologies 100-436011 Radeon 9200 Mac Edition Pci', i replaced a former upgrade, the original Radeon Mac Edition, the original is a 32MB card and this is a 128MB card, that's a big difference, although i don't see it yet. I also have a SIIG USB 2.0 PCI card. It has 4 external and 1 internal port. I tore out the old Iomega 100 Zip drive and replaced it with an internal Datafab USB 2.0 multi-card reader. The computer itself has faulty firewire ports. So i installed a generic firewire PCI card. Another biggie is the 'Sonnet Technologies ATA-133 Tempo ATA/133 PCI Card for Macintosh', this allows me to run the 3 'IBM 80GB 7200 RPM ATA/100 EIDE HDD ( 09N4248 )', i have them all connected to the card with '24in IDE ATA 133 Clear Round Cable Bulk'. The round ones supposedly increase air flow. While on that topic, i replaced the internal fan with this one: '120MM CASE FAN BLUE LED-4-PIN'. Yes, funky blue lights. While on the lighting topic, i installed 2 'STARTECH.COM CCTUBEUV 12.5"TUBE Flrscnt Lamp Kit Uv', one on the top and bottom of the case. I also cut out the metal behind the Apple logo so the light from inside shines outward. I also painted various chips inside the machine with UV paint so they glow. I also put cobalt blue stick-on chip heat sinks on the hotter chips and RAM. I also repainted the blue parts of the case with Rustoleum Metallic Cobalt Blue, it's gorgeous! I painted the blue on the monitor the same color. Oh, and of course, i'm running the latest version of the Mac OS, 'Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger [Old Version]'. Peripherals In addition to making my computer a beast, i added these to my setup: 'LaCie d2 52x32x52 External FireWire CD-RW Drive includes EasyCD Creator and Toast lite ( 300566 )', 'Apple iSight Video Conferencing Webcam with Autofocus -M8817LL/B', 'Belkin Economy USB 1.1 7-Port Hub (F5U027)', 'Apple M7696LLA Pro Keyboard for Macintosh', 'Logitech MX 510 Performance Optical Gaming Mouse - Blue', 'D-Link DBT-120 Bluetooth USB Adapter, PC/Mac', 'Samsung ML-1430 Laser Printer', 'Epson Stylus Photo 1280 Inkjet Printer (Silver)', 'Minolta DiMAGE Scan Dual III High Speed', 'Griffin Technology iMic USB External Sound Card', 'Harman Kardon Soundsticks 2', 'Canon CanoScan LiDE 50 Color Scanner', 'Apple M8799LL/A AirPort Extreme Base Station with Modem and Antenna Port', 'Apple AirPort Express with Air Tunes (M9470LL/A)', 'LACIE Universal Media Reader', 'Apple Wireless Pro Mouse - Bluetooth', 'Logitech NASCAR Race Wheel with Vibration Feedback - USB (963339-0403)', 'Elgato 10020221 Eyetv 200 Digital Video Record' Other Related Goodies 'Apple Powerbook Notebook 15.2" M8859LL/A (1.0-GHz PowerPC G4, 512 MB RAM, 60 GB Hard Drive, DVD-RW/CD-RW Drive)':i have the 1.25 Ghz with 1GB RAM and 80 GB HD (5200 rpm) 'Apple 60 GB iPod photo', 'Sony MDR-EX51LP Fontopia Headphones, Black/Silver': for the iPod 'Sendstation Systems PocketDock Line Out': for the iPod in the car 'Griffin White iTrip FM Transmitter for iPod': for the iPod in other locations 'JBL Creature II Self-Powered Satellite Speakers (White)': for other parts of the house 'Motorola RAZR V3 Phone (Unlocked) + HS815 Bluetooth Headset': syncs with iSync 'Canon Ultura Digital Camcorder': used as a webcam for the desktop 'Canon GL2 MiniDV Digital Camcorder w/20x Optical Zoom', 'D70 Outfit with 18-70mm DX Lens', 'SanDisk SDCFH-256-901 256MB ULTRA II CF Card': a bunch of these 'Shure SM57LC Shure SM57 Cardioid Dynamic Microphone', 'Brenthaven Titanium 1 - Carrying case - black' And i think that covers it, not to mention various Ethernet, USB and Firewire cables. An extra battery for the laptop. Loads of software. Oh, and a cable modem. |
