Here it is; 50 of the best films of the 1970's. Many of these are personal favorites, others are just excellent films from a great decade. There are many that I chose not to squeeze in and others that were so close, but missed it by a hair. I prefer to put the movies that I love and actually watch often as opposed to movies that are technically good but have only seen once or twice.

Friends of Eddie Coyle, The (1973)

Director Pete Yates ('Bullitt', 'Breaking Away') made one of the all time great crime dramas way back when - but nobody remembers it. The film follows the events of a slew of characters involved in the Boston underworld of organized crime - thieves, narcs, gun peddlers, cops - all revolving around Eddie 'Fingers' Coyle who manages to get around more than anybody else, but really just wants to retire. Ultra-realistic with some of the most authentic dialogue and performances ever seen. Not available on DVD even though it ought to be.
