| Buy Movies To MemorizeA guide by Janitor-X, raised on movies See all products
A good movie will challenge my mind and go beyond the typical plot. A good movie will leave an impression on you long after it's over. A good movie will leave you wanting more. The typical good guys vs. bad guys, boy falls in love with girl, and the evil slasher kills everyone are way to predictable and totally forgettable. The good guys beat the bad guys, the boy gets the girl, and the slasher dies (again). It doesn’t make sense to buy a movie you'll only watch once or twice. The only movies I buy are the ones that are difficult to understand until you've seen it more than once, or a movie that lingers long after you watch it and you don't know why until you watch it again. COMPLEX AND UNUSUAL PLOTS 'Fight Club' is my all-time favorite movie and has a surprise ending that will make a person want to watch it again and they will pick-up something new every time they watch it. 'Reservoir Dogs - (Mr. Blond) 10th Anniversary Special Limited Edition' has a surprise ending, great dialogue, and very powerful images. Quentin Tarantino's other movies are worth watching more than once also because they all have smart plots; great dialogue, and are very stylish. 'Pulp Fiction (Collector's Edition)' has a story line that is chronologically mixed in way that makes you want to watch it again and again. 'Jackie Brown (Collector's Edition)' is worth watching more than once not only for a complex plot, but also for Samuel Jackson's performance. Oliver Stone's 'Natural Born Killers' and 'U Turn' are visual assaults that are impossible to take in on the first viewing. 'Seven (New Line Platinum Series)' is a disturbing movie where you're not sure if the bad guy wins or loses. 'Sleepers' is a really dark movie with a controversial ending. 'The Believer' is a movie I'm still trying to understand. 'Bound' is a great thriller with unusual characters. 'Run Lola Run' is a foreign film that is an unusual thriller and very interesting. 'Jacob's Ladder' is like the "The Sixth Sense" but was made long before and was a better film. 'Colors' gives an accurate portrayal of the inner city, which can be more complex than one thinks. 'Memento (Limited Edition)' has a very challenging plot that will be needed to be worth repeated viewings. 'The Terminator' was a very original plot at the time it was released. POWERFUL IMAGES Robert DeNiro's greatest performance ever was in the remake of 'Cape Fear (10th Anniversary Edition)'. The ending of "Cape Fear" is typical but the characters are very realistic and all their performances are powerful. Director Larry Clark is the master movies that stay in people's minds. 'Bully (Unrated/ Theatrical Edition)' and 'Kids' will linger in your mind for months and make you wonder why until you watch it again. P.T. Anderson is another master of striking people in the head with powerful images with movies like 'Hard Eight (Special Edition)', 'Boogie Nights (New Line Platinum Series)', and 'Magnolia (New Line Platinum Series)'. 'Requiem for a Dream (Director's Cut)' and 'Pi' are pretty depressing, but you won't forget them easily. 'True Romance (Unrated Director's Cut) (Two-Disc Special Edition)' has very violent and very memorable scenes. 'Killing Zoe' is a foreign film about total nihilism that just sticks in the viewer's head. 'River's Edge' is a movie that will take away your hope for teenager's futures. 'Kalifornia' takes a all too realistic look at serial killers that will make you want to de-sensitize yourself by watching it again and again. 'Trainspotting' has a couple of scenes that are hard to take, but it's also kind of funny. 'Traffic - Criterion Collection' and 'Rush (Ws Dub Sub Dol)' shows the war on drugs in a gritty, realistic way. 'American History X' and 'Romper Stomper (Special Edition)' are films about skinheads that leave a permanent impression. One infamous scene in 'Deliverance' left an impression on people to this day. BLACK COMEDIES Many people don't get the comedy in 'Drugstore Cowboy', it takes a certain type of mind to understand. 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - Criterion Collection' is for druggies that can relate. 'Chopper', 'Fargo (Special Edition)', and 'Snatch (Special Edition)' are the type of comedies that show criminals aren't that smart. 'Heathers (THX Version)' is probably the most realistic high school movie and it's absolutely hilarious. 'Buffalo 66' is a very weird love story. On the lighter side, 'Clerks (Collector's Edition)', 'Office Space (Widescreen Edition)', and 'Raising Arizona'. |
