Okay, lets get one thing strait. If you buy block sets, and you like realistic sets, you *really* should buy Megabloks. If you like fantasy, then Lego is the stuff for you. However, though Megabloks is more realistic, design can be poor and, like in the P-51 Mustang, where the wings often fall off the plane. Lego is *much* more durable, and has far clearer instructions. I'd say Lego is best for children, while Megabloks is a step up. However, if you want a middle ground, I find Best Lock is great.
