So You’d Like to Be Captured By
a Thriller.
I’m a girl who loves to read, but that shouldn’t
surprise you any, because if you are reading this,
then you are like me. I love a good book, mysteries,
thrillers, love stories and horror stories too.
But it’s thrillers I like the best, I just love
to be captured by a thriller and three I read recently
that captured me right off the bat were written
by John Le Carre, Ken Douglas and James Patterson.
I’m what you might call a struggling writer,
so I’m trying to get my name out there and that’s
why I’m writing some reviews and making these Amazon
guides. So you’ll see my name and maybe remember
it.
Leeann Logan, that’s my name.
Anyway, below you’ll see a list of the three
books I’ve reviewed in this guide by those writers
I mentioned above and you’ll also see a list of
some other good books.
Thank you for looking,
Lee Logan
Absolutely a Terrifically Thrilling Story!
'Absolute Friends', by John Le Carre
Ted Mundy was a mid level British spy during the
Cold War years, never at the top of the game, always
a servant who did his job. He was the kind of spy
who never had a need to know. So when the Berlin
Wall came down his services were no longer needed
and he began wandering through job after job, till
he finally winds up in Germany sans family, living
with a Turkish mistress and her child and working
as a comedic tour guide of German castles
Then one day Sasha, friend from his leftist youth,
shows up on one of his tours. Sasha introduces Munday
to a mysterious moneyman ready to finance schemes
to make a world terrified by terrorism a better
place, if Mundy's ready to take a few chances once
again and of course he is. Sasha, the best friend
Munday has ever had, is a smooth talking, charismatic,
failure of a revolutionary and from the beginning
the pair are unwitting pawns in someone else's game.
What that game is, and why they have been recruited
for it is the question that will keep you glued
to the book, weather or not you agree with Mr. Le
Carré's politics. Mr. Le Carrés has few equals in
espionage thrillers and once again with ABSOLUTE
FRIENDS, he demonstrates why.
There is Nothing Like a Little Dose of Revenge!
'Running Scared', by Ken Douglas
RUNNING SCARED is a super women in trouble thriller
that had me reading the night away and although
the ending wasn't anything like I'd guessed, I thought
I pretty much figured out where the book was going
about half way through, but I was fooled. Though
not a mystery in the purest sense, this book is
all thriller. I couldn’t put it down.
Like my sister, who also reviewed this book,
I liked the strong female characters, but I can
be just a tiny bit squimish at times, plus I have
a child, so I cringed some when Nina was beaten
up and lost her baby, but I sure did love seeing
her get even. Nothing like a good dose of revenge
to get my blood pumping. I really enjoyed how Mr.
Douglas kept piling on the troubles and how Joey
and Nina kept getting out of the tight spots by
a cat's whisker.
This was a fast-paced book that was very hard,
almost impossible to put down. I liked it very much
and I think you will too.
You Will Burn the Midnight Oil with This One!
'Along Came a Spider (Alex Cross Novels)', by
James Patterson
Alex cross is The Deputy Chief of Detectives on
the Washington DC police force. He has a degree
in Psychology and is very adept at getting into
the mind of serial killers. He's black, has two
children, he us a widower (his wife was killed in
a drive by shooting) and Mama Nana (his cantakorous
grandmother) lives with him. Sampson is Cross's
partner and friend, someone he can always count
on and on of the best characters I've ever encountered
in a mystery thriller.
Jessie Flannigan is a secret service agent and
her job is to protect some of the children at a
private school, among them the daugther of a United
States Senator, a girl named Megan. When Megan is
kidnapped along with another child, Alex is called
in to help. Of course he falls in love with Jezzie,
but I didn't mind that because I was so caught up
in the story and in the character of Gary Sonji,
the serial killer (or is he, you'll have to read
the book and be amazed as I was at the outcome).
Also again I have to put in another plug for Sampson,
a character I just wanted to take home and hug to
death.
There is murder here. Good cops are taken off
a case, only to have to investigate on their own
time. There is frustration, excitement, twists and
turns, somethings expected, others unexpected. You
will burn the midnight oil with this one, I know
I did.
Many More Thrillers for You to Check Out.
