I recently had to send both of my
Evenflo Triumph convertible
Carseats back for a full refund. I also filed a complaint with the government. Here's why: My son was able to lift up the fabric on each side, exposing styrofoam. The styrofoam was easy to pick at, which he did. He was rear-facing and could have choked and died.
Evenflo saiys that that seat he was in was made in 2004 and only had 3 clips on each side to hold the fabric down. They started making them in 2005 with 4 clips because they were aware of the safety issue. Did they issue a recall? No. Did they notify the customers with those seats who filled out their product registration cards that their child may choke to death? No. They just started making them with more clips. And by the way, I had one of those seats too, with 4 clips. And he was still able to pick at the styrofoam in that one too, although not as easily. There were bits of styrofoam all over the back seat so he did get to it.
Evenflo apologized, had us send back the seats and are giving us a refund. I told them they should really issue a recall. I put my trust in a company that they would notify me of a safety issue and they did not. I went out and bought two
Britax seats and tehy are great. Also while shopping for
Carseats I noticed that a few other
Evenflo models (not only
Triumph) have this issue... the models right there is the store exposed the styrofoam. My advice is this: don't buy the Evenflo
Carseats. And if you have one already, please check it out - if your child is able to lift up the fabric and expose styrofoam, don't use it - call them and demand a refund! If they get enough people reporting problems they may issue a recall, which may save a child's life!
