"Feel good" anime at its best! One of the best uses of music I have ever seen. Fun and cool coming of age story.
Kino's Journey - The Idle Adventurer (Vol. 1) DVD ~ Kinos Journey  
Each episode poses a different philosophical question, and the series as a whole presents one broad life affirming idea, "The world is not beautiful, and that, in a way, lends it a kind of beauty."
Princess Mononoke DVD ~ Yôji Matsuda  
Miyazaki's definitive man vs. nature story on film.
Grave of the Fireflies (Collector's Edition) DVD ~ Tsutomu Tatsumi  
This is by Studio Ghibli and is incredibly painful to watch, but I found it more touching than sad, the focus is not on death but survival.
Voices of a Distant Star DVD ~ Donna Burke  
If it is possible for something to be so beautiful that it transcends time and space, this would be it. It was made by one guy on a Mac.
Samurai X - Trust & Betrayal (Director's Cut) DVD ~ Mayo Suzukaze  
If you don't want to sit through the TV show, just watch this and you'll have seen the best the story has to offer. This is basically an epic love story that tells the history behind Kenshin's scar.
Now and Then, Here and There (Complete Collector's Boxed Set) DVD ~ Akemi Okamura  
A depressing look at the idiocy of war through the eyes of a persistently optimistic kid who falls into a smokestack to help a girl who is underappreciated. Each episode ends with a lullabye.
My Neighbor Totoro (2-Disc Set) DVD ~ Noriko Hidaka  
A depiction of the innocence of youth. Miyazaki's imagination runs wild and produces some very realistic stuff in a fantasy world.
Trigun - The Complete Boxed Set DVD ~ Masaya Onosaka  
This is probably my favorite 26 episode series. There's not a single person on earth who couldn't enjoy this for something or other.
Last Exile - First Move (Vol. 1) With Collector's Box DVD ~ Johnny Yong Bosch  
Entertaining and great music, but alot was left unexplained. , I enjoyed the characters a lot, and the monologue at the end of the last episode is quite good.
His And Her Circumstances 1-5 DVD ~ Atsuko Enomoto  
This is the best "school-age" romance I've ever seen. By Hideaki Anno of Evangelion fame, it is a very touchingly honest (and hilarious) story about first love.
Neon Genesis Evangelion - Platinum Collection 1 + Series Box DVD ~ Megumi Ogata  
A powerful story chock full of religious symbolism and the progressive insanity of a kid who has to take on a whole heck of a lot of responsibility. A bit too battle oriented at times, but good.
Castle in the Sky DVD ~ Mayumi Tanaka  
This is a great movie by Miyazaki with excellent music and some amazing art and action sequences considering it was made in the 80's.
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind DVD ~ Sumi Shimamoto  
I like this movie because of the awesome golden field business and the haunting melody as the humans are crawling like bugs. It's epic and powerful, but Mononoke Hime tops it big time.
Kiki's Delivery Service DVD ~ Minami Takayama  
Your typical coming of age story, except a lot better than most coming of age stories because its by Miyazaki! (watch Whisper of the Heart, his best)
Rurouni Kenshin Wandering Samurai - Premium Box 1 DVD ~ Mayo Suzukaze  
Kenshin is the only multiple season series I can stand. It really is a great show, mainly because Kenshin actually develops throughout it, but you can stop watching at the end of season 2.
Porco Rosso DVD ~ Shûichirô Moriyama  
A bit of a departure for Miyazaki, but it's a lot of fun and Porco's an awesome character... almost my favorite Miyazaki film now that I think about it. If I wasn't too lazy to rearrange I'd raise it
Neon Genesis Evangelion - The End of Evangelion DVD ~ Megumi Ogata  
This was made because the fans didn't like the ending of the show, so they demanded a "better one." I prefer the original, more psychological one, but this is still pretty good.
Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi (Vol. 1) DVD ~ Kira Vincent-Davis  
This is by Gainax again, and is like a less brilliant, more perverted and misguided FLCL. Great characters, but the ending bugged me. It's like excel saga but there's actually a point and a story.
Serial Experiments Lain - Boxed Set DVD ~ Kaori Shimizu  
It's an interesting idea, but it's not like it hasn't been done before. I really enjoyed it though, and this is directed by the same guy who did Kino's Travels, and has a similar structure.
Chobits DVD ~ Chobits  
It's a nice mix of mush, humor, and sci-fi that actually tackles the issue of whether or not loving a robot who's programmed to love you really counts.
Millennium Actress DVD ~ Miyoko Shôji  
A powerful movie by Satoshi Kon which takes the most tragic element of human nature and makes it beautiful. About a girl chasing a shadow.
Cowboy Bebop - The Perfect Sessions (Limited Edition Complete Series Boxed Set) DVD ~ Kôichi Yamadera  
The characters are stiff, unemotional, and impossible to identify with. The art is stunning, however.
Perfect Blue DVD ~ Junko Iwao  
This was very Hitchcock-ish. I enjoyed it because it was an effective thriller. It was also incredibly disturbing and painful to watch at times.
