Its easy to feel as though you can do anything when you wear your baby. Well here are some tips on keeping your little one safe while you cross off your to-do list.
Safety First!
Depending on the carrier, make sure that any buckles or straps are connected and snapped properly. This one is pretty obvious but in a hurry you may get careless.
Never exceed the recommended weight limits of the carrier.
Check the carrier for signs of wear and tear.
Know your carrier. This may come easily once you find the one you love but knowing the different carrying positions and adjustments may make the difference in your child being safe and comfortable.
When wearing child in a back carry, make sure they are old enough to do so (around 18 months) and that they are calm. You dont want to try this with an unhappy child. Practice new positions until you have confidence in carrying them out.
A small infant in a pouch or sling should have their head far back enough to insure free air flow. Often, a small folded cloth diaper can help position their head just as a pillow would. Check their position often.
Make sure to keep carrier straps and long loose cloth out of the path of revolving doors,elevators, or any contraption that could entangle the straps or cloth.
Use caution when walking through tight spaces and doorways. In a hurry you could bonk your childs head!
Curious hands will often reach for all the wrong things. Watch for open flames, hot liquids, closing doors or sharp objects that they may come across.
While getting used to wearing baby in a carrier, pay attention to steps and uneven terrain. wearing a child will change your sense of balance a bit until you are used to it.
