| As a companion guide to
the "Kick your friends..." So You'd Like
To guide, I shall now give you something
to do inbewteen weekends, when your friends
can't come over to get whooped up. Enter
the single player game.
RPG's
My personal gerne of choice. This is only
for the gamer with time on their hands.
Lots of it. If you want to do your school
work, or if you have a job, odds are you
don't have time for RPG's. But for those
of you that have that kind of time on your
hand, you're in luck. Now, if you've even
heard of RPG's, you probably own
'Final Fantasy X' and it's predecessors.
But the fun doesn't stop there. Tip: Look
past the "Kiddieness" of
'Kingdom Hearts'. You can thank me later.
PS2 owners also get one of the more impressive
RPG's made outside of Square in
'Suikoden 3'. Oh, and if you like long-winded
stories, lots of text and talking in your
RPG's, do yourself a favor and pick up
'Xenogears' and
'Xenosaga'. Trust me on that one. There's
yet even more goodies from Square in
'Chrono Cross',
'Final Fantasy Tactics' and
'Vagrant Story' among others...so, really,
you can just buy Square games and have a
great PS1 RPG collection. Other systems,
it's a bit harder...N64 has both
'Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time' and
'The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask',
but it's hard after that. There is
'Paper Mario' and for you farmers out
there,
'Harvest Moon 64' is just right. DC
owners only have
'Skies of Arcadia' and
'Grandia 2', not that they're bad, they're
really good actually, but that's all (Aside
from Phantasy Star Online, but that's not
really 1 player is it?) X-Box gamers...you
get the hardcore stuff. Stuff like
'Elder Scrolls: Morrowind'. And the
upcoming
'Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic'.
Pre-order that one if you are a Star Wars
fan in the least bit. Even if you don't
like Star War, pre-order that one. And next
year, "Project Ego" and "B.C." Those are
looking to be good ones. Gamecube owners...things
are finally starting to look up.
'The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker'
is all I need to say...
Dreamcast
Since 'RPG' is really a genre based around
1 player games, the rest I'll do by system.
Despite it being...well, officially a "Dead
system," in my eyes, the DC will always
rock, as will it's games. Though the U.S.(Of
COURSE) won't be getting the sequel, that
doesn't mean we can't play the first
'Shenmue'. How does Europe get Shenmue
II but...anyways, despite many people thinking
the contrary, I liked
'Sonic Adventure' better than
'Sonic Adventure 2'. I think it was
more...cleverly designed, and is a better
overall game. Just my opinion though. And
I dig rythym games, and I dig
'Space Channel 5' so...there ^^ And,
while it's fun beating your friends, you'll
never be able to really outskill the computer
like you can your buds sometimes in
'Tennis 2K2'. Well, not the comp on
a hard difficulty anyways.
Gamecube
GC has quite a lineup now with all their
exclusives out.
'Metroid Prime'.
'Super Mario Sunshine'.
'Resident Evil'.
'Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron
II'. Not bad, eh? And if you don't mind
quote-unquote "Little kiddie games,"
'Pikmin for Nintendo GameCube' will
be right up your alley, though it may be
a bit short. And, one of the only games
that will appear on both 'Multi' and '1
Player' lists of mine is
'Super Monkey Ball'. You can't mess
with it. An un-official Marble Madness sequel
was long overdue... ^^
Playstation
This will include both PS1 and PS2. Who
can say they don't enjoy good old fashioned
fun? No one. Unless you're a grumpy crab.
but, if you're not a crab, then you'll like
'Grand Theft Auto 3' and
'Grand Theft Auto: Vice City'. This
game would be fun if you asked people politely
to borrow their car and instead of preforming
hits on people you gave them hugs and sent
them flowers, the gameplay's so good. Well,
it'd lose a bit of it's luster, but it's
a really good game. And as much as I like
it 2 player,
'Ps2 Tony Hawk 4' is really meant to
be 1 player. Or at least, it's meant to
be fullscreen. And, while it's no "HALO,"
PS2 owners get a good dose of great FPS
action with
'Red Faction'...hey that rhymes...I'm
a poet and...wait, that joke sucks. For
deep racing action and a buttloadof cars,
'Gran Turismo 3: A Spec' is for you.
That'll keep you happy for months, getting
everything in the game. There's also some
great action/platformers too, from "Critics
love me, but not buyers, for some reason"
'Ps2 Ico', to "Critics AND buyers like
us ^^"
'Jak and Daxter for PlayStation 2',
to "Why are you putting me in the platformer
catagory?"
'Devil May Cry'. For those of you without
a PC, you can pick up
'The Sims' on PS2. And of course, you
have to mention
'Metal Gear Solid 2:Substance' because,
well...the game rules you.
X-Box
'HALO'. Even now, it's still the best
game for X-Box in my opinion. Though it's
got got tough competition.
'Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell' is a definate
challenger for top game, though it's coming
out on PS2 as well, but...whatever.
'Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball'
is a great game, under all the scantily
clad polygon women. Great V-ball action.
I've been waiting for this since Super Spike
V-ball. X-Box also includes the best version
of
'Max Payne' (Besides PC of course) though
some people don't dig the X-Box controller.
And, despote the fact that it's a fancied
up rail shooted, pick up
'Panzer Dragoon Orta'. You'll see nothing
that look better than this until...a long
time. For the patient...VERY patient player,
there's top notch racers
'Project Gotham Racing' and
'Rallisport Challenge'. Warning: if
you enjoy beating games, you might not like
those 2. They're...f'ing...HARD! There's
also the top-notch "I'm not REALLY an extreme
sports title"
'JSRF- Jet Set Radio Future'. Moving
to action/adventure titles,
'Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee' is a must,
and if you're willing to try and learn the
controls, a very good
'Gun Valkyrie' waits for you...and X-Box
still begins and ends with
'HALO'.
Well, there you go...the best solo games
you can buy...right now anyways. There's
always more RPG's coming out...and "Halo
2" and "GTA4" are of course in the works...
