Every few years
or so there are a variety of new
gaming consoles out there ready
to test there stuff and win the
console wars. Throughout the past
4 years or so we've seen 5 new systems
to play on. One "dead" system, one
hand held, and the other 3 qualify
for a next generation console. These
three are the
'Xbox With S',
'GameCube Jet Black', and
'Sony PlayStation 2'. All three
have there pros and cons and not
one system will stand out for all
people. Each system tries to go
for a particular audience and because
of that some systems may apply to
you some may not. This guide is
to show you what applied to me and
which systems people of my age group
should really consider getting (age
group 14 to 20.) So anyways with
that said lets get into it!
The
X box: New kids on the block
The Xbox is a system that brings
pure power to the gaming world,
something we've seen plenty of times,
something we've seen fail plenty
of times, that is. Microsoft are
the new kids on the block meaning
that, they've never made a system
and have no experience doing so.
They can make a computer, but a
next gen system, no. The Xbox isn't
exactly a next gen system you see,
but a cheap computer. It can play
your dvds hold your meomory on a
hard drive, play your mp3s, and
let you play your games on your
computer. Unfortunatley for the
new system, it has weak 3rd party
support, a clunky controller (yes
microsoft fan boys even the S controller
isn't good), and games that attract
older males, no one else unfortunatley.
The graphics on the system are spectacualar
however, and the hard drive is quite
nifty. The dvd player is better
then ps2s but you need to buy the
dvd remote for it. All in all this
system should be avoided by most
gamers but however some gamers may
appeal to the system (typically
older males who have never owned
a Genesis, SNES, NES or anything
besides maybe a Sega Saturn, Playstation,
Dreamcast, or even an N64.)
Games I recommend for the system:
'HALO',
'Xb Sega Gt 2002',
'JSRF- Jet Set Radio Future',
'Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell',
'Dead or Alive 3'
Not mentioned notes: Good - Rare
has signed on with Microsoft to
bring Conker and other characters
over to the Xbox, 2nd fastest loading
times, Internet capabilities are
the best on any system
Bad - Hard to carry anywhere because
of hardrive (heavy), many of its
games go to the computer
The
Gamecube: Are they ready to take
down Sony for good
Like the Xbox, Nintendo is in a
tight spot. Last time around they
went with cartridges, rather then
discs and it hurt there 3rd party
support drastically. Especially
considering the fact that Sony used
to work for Nintendo and that the
SNES came out as the best system
to most between the 16 bit systems.
Nintendo has always been a reliable
source to many but since the NES
and SNES they have lost a little
bit of there touch. Actually since
saying that they did not want any
blood in there version of Street
Fighter II made many parents and
kids turn heads (this was around
the time that video games were making
kids test weapons on each other,
like in the games.) Nowadays many
consider any Nintendo system childish
and for nerds. However, many of
these people did not play the old
games. Play with the characters
we all used to (and still) love
to play as. Star Fox, Super Mario,
Donkey Kong - all of these games
revolutionized many things we see
today. Plus they were extremly fun
and addictive. Until the N64 nintendo
had 3rd party support and some of
the best 1st party support ever.
Now they (like microsoft) have little
3rd party support and (not like
microsoft) have excellent 1st party
support. The Gamecube includes a
strict policy on the system, making
it games only. NO mp3s, and no dvds
- just games. This does hurt Nintendo
however, becaus of the weak 3rd
party support they need something
to fill that gap - but there is
nothing to fill it. Not even a decent
online function (there is one but
nobody uses it except for phantasy
star "online".) The system does
have the fasest loading times (due
to the small discs) and they do
have the best 1st party support
around. For some people this is
enough, others want more. For me
personally it was enough to buy
a GC. Anyone who grew up on Donkey
Kong, Zelda, Link, Mario, Luigi,
Captin Falcon, Fox McCloud, Kirby
and a list full of others the GC
is right up your alley.
Games I recommend for the system:
'Gc Starfox Adventures',
'Metroid Prime',
'Madden NFL 2004',
'The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker',
'Super Smash Bros. Melee',
'Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles',
'Eternal Darkness',
'Resident Evil',
'Resident Evil Zero',
'Mario Kart: Double Dash!!',
'Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2',
'Animal Crossing',
'Super Monkey Ball 2', Plus
I hear Donkey Kong Racing is coming
back but im not sure...
Not mentioned notes:
Good - Has alot of interaction with
the Game Boy Advance, Resident Evil
Series coming to be remade for Nintendo
Bad - Lost Rare to Microsoft (Nintendos
best 3rd party supporter)
PS2:
Already proven great system - but
how will it hold up against the
new systems
How will this system hold up against
new systems? Well Ill say pretty
damn good. PS2 is already at a head
start of all the other systems which
is good and bad. Its good because
of the huge list of games u can
already play for the system (including
PS1 games) like. Unfortunatley the
early release of the system hurts
it greatly. The technology isnt
as good on the ps2 because the other
systems had atleast a year to upgrade
there hard and software. The online
capabilities aren't as good as the
xbox's. The loading times are way
way too long and there are only
2 controller ports - not good for
multiplaying games. However the
3rd party support is the best on
any system and the system easily
has the best 3rd party support around,
maybe ever on any system. The 1st
party support is ok nothing special
but the library of games is amazing.
The system can play both PS1 games
and PS2 games - that's ALOT of games!
The ps2 is your safest bet, you'll
be able to find just about anyhthing
you want on the system and the system
makes games for everyone.
Games I recommend:
'Metal Gear Solid-Sons of Liber',
'Grand Theft Auto: Vice City',
'Gran Turismo 3: A Spec',
'Devil May Cry',
'Jak and Daxter for PlayStation
2',
'Resident Evil: Code Veronica X',
'Final Fantasy X',
'Grand Theft Auto 3',
'Kingdom Hearts',
'Burnout 2',
'Ps2 Tony Hawk 4',
'ATV Offroad Fury 2',
'Ratchet & Clank'
Not mentioned notes:
Good - ps2 does have a dvd player,
on dvd player you can use your ps2
controller as a remote, Games on
all 3 systems seem to be better
on ps2 because many game makers
dont want to make diffrent versions
of a game on the xbox and gcn -
leading the all to the same graphics
Bad - dvd player plays not all dvds,
sells alot of there good games to
other systems
So in the end I hope i helped you.
Like Nintendo did i believe 15 years
back or so, they had only and 8
bit system against two 16 bit system,
yet they were getting the best sales
and still had the best system around.
This proves that no matter how technologhy
involved your system is, it doesnt
mean you have the best system. Games
count! Not extras, not technologhy,
but simple gaming.
What did I do Exactly: Well last
year for christmas I got a ps2.
Then on my birthday (in july) i
bought a gamecube and a few games
were given to me for my birthday
so... those are the two systems
I suggest. Hope you make the right
decision for you however. |
