The University of New Mexico (UNM) is a public university in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was founded in 1889, and today offers multiple bachelor's, master's, doctoral, and professional degree programs in all areas of the arts, sciences, and engineering. Its Albuquerque campus currently spreads over 600 acres (2.4 km˛), and there are branch campuses in Gallup, Los Alamos, Taos, and Valencia County. The University of New Mexico is ranked 5th out of the top 100 federally funded institutions in regard to the impact of materials science papers over the years 1996-2000 by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI).
