Contra Costa College currently serves approximately 8,000 students each semester and is known for its excellent faculty, small classes, and caring and dedicated support staff. The college is conveniently located near San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley, with nearby public transportation. It is also close to San Francisco and Oakland international airports. The college sits amidst a wealth of world-class educational institutions, including the University of California, Berkeley; UC Davis; Stanford University; the University of San Francisco; St. Mary's College of California; and among others, the California State University campuses at Hayward, San Francisco, San Jose, and Sonoma, among others. Transfer EducationClasses taken at Contra Costa College transfer to most public and private four-year institutions. The college currently offers Associate in Arts (AA) and Associate in Science degrees, as well as Certificates of Achievement and some Certificates of Completion in specific courses. Upon completion of a minimum of 60 units of transferable courses and general education breadth requirements, students may be eligible to transfer as juniors. Contra Costa College has an on-site admissions program with San Francisco State University, as well as various transfer guaranteed admissions agreements with UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz and UC Riverside and other universities in California and the U.S. Programs of StudyContra Costa College offers a wide variety of programs and majors for students, ranging from English, math and the sciences to computers, nursing, foreign languages and business. BiotechnologyContra Costa College was the first college in northern California to offer studies in biotechnology. In developing the program, the college worked closely with the local biotechnology industry to create a course of study that was thorough and relevant to employers. The college has entered into a consortium agreement with local hospitals to participate in their biotechnology incubator project. Nursing ProgramThe Associate Degree Nursing Program has been graduating classes since 1960. It is designed to meet the college requirements for graduation with eligibility for an A.S. degree, as well as the requirements of the California Board of Registered Nursing. A key part of the Registered Nursing program at Contra Costa College is hands-on experience in the Nursing Skills Lab and at clinical sites in local hospitals and community agencies. JournalismThe Advocate, Contra Costa College's student newspaper produced by the journalism classes, is one of the most honored and awarded college newspapers in the country. The Advocate has been named to the college newspaper association's national Hall of Fame, and annually wins many regional and state awards. Many journalism students have transferred to four-year institutions and gone on to successful careers. International Student AdmissionThe CCC International Student Office assists students with admissions, immigration, orientation and advising, housing matters, health insurance, employment both on and off campus, and club activities. For those students who do not yet have the required paper-based 500 (or computer-based 173, Internet-based 61) TOEFL score, CCC offers a "No-TOEFL" admissions policy.
