Product Details Their debut offers a taste of their driving guitar force, heartbreaking duets, and sun-kissed, wall of sound harmonies. Produced, recorded, and mixed by Ian Davenport (Supergrass, Badly Drawn Boy). Artwork by bassist/vocalist Emma Richardson. "Patterns" selected for Activision's Tony Hawk World Skate Game (out fall 2009). ESPN will use "I Know What I Am" in sports backgrounds. The song is also featured in the film "Whip It!" and the TV trailer for "I Love You, Man".
Product Reviews (5 stars) - actually, it rocks, doesn't it? London debut combines glam/psych Indie garage rock with some hard-edged guitar and
distortion-damaged blues lines in a place where melody-strewn verses collide with rumbling,
riff-driven choruses. Hanging out somewhere among White Stripes, the Kills, Duke Spirit,
Queens Of the Stone Age, Black Keys.
(5 stars) - love this album I don't usually write reviews, but I'm really digging this album. The vocals are awesome, interesting lyrics, and great sounds. Different songs seem to have a sound similar to the Stripes, Killers, Franz, and maybe a little Yeah Yeah Yeah's, but it works really well. My fav songs are "I know what I am", "Honest", "Patterns", "Blood", and "Cold Fame".. but they are all great. They are touring with Metric in the States right now, I'm planning to see them at Ram's Head Live in Baltimore at the end of November and looking forward to it!
(5 stars) - I say 4.5 stars... I heard Band of Skulls play live, a cappella, and WOW! They had me WOW'd. Any band that can play live like that impresses me.
I really dig this album!
I really dig Band of Skulls music.
You should buy this album along with all others!
=)
(4 stars) - Racontuers meets Black Mountain 7 to 9 winners found here, although I can't say any of them is really a classic. But it's great fun for a season or two!
(2 stars) - Sorry to burst the 4 star bubble, but I feel like I should save some people the money.. Band of Skulls, man I really wanted to like them. Im always looking for my next favorite band, and after hearing people rant and rave about this band with the Stripe-ish sound and all that I had to hear them. And they SUCK. Im a huge Stripes fan, and I would say that if you're gonna borrow JW's sound, at least do it better than he does or on par with him. This crap sounded like Franz Ferdinand meets the Stripes meets lame. I loved the instrumental on "Blood" no doubt the strongest track on the entire album. The Russell guy is tight with the guitar work, but the damn girl on the song!!! She killed it definitely. I thought I was listening to Shania Twain or Faith Hill. And the lyrics? That's what really killed "Blood" and the whole album for that matter. I noticed a trend, once I started playing the album, my finger kept pushing the skip button until that bull==== was over.
To me all the songs on the album lacked any kind of balls. A lot of it sounded like future radio pop. Some of these songs will be future Ipod commercials. Damn man, I really wanted to like these guys, oh well, at least the Dead Weather's album did'nt dissapoint,so much. I would definitely skip this one, or borrow it from a friend, or just buy Whorehound from The Dead Weather. Their songs have balls in them.
