This is a very good follow up to the original Blackout album! Definitely worth the pickup.

(4 stars) - Blackout 2: Almost 10 years after the first Blackout. It's about time.
Redman & Method Man have both been in the hip hop game for many years. Method Man, with The Wu Tang Clan and his so so solo albums, other than "Tical" and Redman with his association with EPMD & Def Squad and with his solo albums as well. Together, when they created "How High" on The Show soundtrack and their first collaboration CD, Blackout!, they definitely had a formula going. My favorite tracks from the CD included the title track, "Y.O.U", "Da Rockwilder", "Cereal Killer", "Run 4 Cover" w/Ghostface & Streetlife and "4 Seasons" w/LL Cool J & Ja Rule. They even managed to create a movie and a short lived TV show based on "How High". They also have been featured on alot of collaborations that I have enjoyed such as LL Cool J's "4,3,2,1", Styles P's "Good Times" (Remix), Pharoahe Monch's "Simon Says" (Remix) and Ghostface's "Buck 50" from "Supreme Clientele". You would have thought that it wouldn't have taken 10 years for them to release a sequel. However, in 2009 we have finally been blessed with "Blackout 2". If you still think that these 2 MCs don't have it as a group, the "BO2 Intro" will quickly silence any nay sayers. Havoc of Mobb Deep shows up to produce "I'm A Dope N_____" as he provides a nice beat for the first full length song on the album. Pete Rock produces the 1st single "A-Yo", which features Saukrates on the hook. They show that they can still make something for the radio that is worth listening to. You just won't hear anything like that on the radio stations here in the DMV, (DC, Maryland & Virginia) eventhough they are showing their 2nd single and one of my favorite tracks on this CD, "Ms. International" some love. "City Lights" uses a sample from the late, great Pimp C and Redman, Method Man and Bun B pay tribute the best way they can by droppin' nice 16s on the Nasty Kutt track. Although, they could have left the autotune at home. "Dis Iz 4 All My Smokers" is self expanatory but Red & Meth's fans won't be disappointed at all. The best moment on the CD is obviously "4 Minutes To Lockdown", which is a collaboration that features Redman, Method Man, Raekwon & Ghostface. You will definitely listen to this track more than once when you first play the CD. Buckwild definitely uses the Blue Notes' sample "Here I Am" to perfection as Red & Meth save something for the ladies on "Mrs. International". This track will never get old as Red & Meth mix in humor to convey their ode to the ladies on this album.


There are some hit and miss tracks on this CD and the last 2 tracks "I Know Sumptn" and "A Lil Bit" are just plain awful. They definitely should have ended this CD after the 15th track. All the other tracks are atleast tracks that you can listen to almost every time you listen to this CD. It's nice to get another release from Red & Meth, but this definitely would have caught even more attention had it been released years earlier. Red & Meth fans won't be disappointed though and this will be a welcome addition to any hip hop fan's collection.

(5 stars) - worth the ten years it ben
This cd is great redman and methodman showed everybody that ten years is nothin in there case. They came back better than ever this cd is a platinum cd it should not go gold. I say if this cd goes gold and not platinum fans let them down. there frist cd balckout 1 went platinum so this one is real good to. I like to say for it being ten years since there frist blackout redman and methodman lost nothing they have the same swager for ten years. To tell you they truth if redman and methodman didnt make a new cd in 20 years they still be the same nothing want change with them. To everybody buy the cd its all worth it you will enjoy this cd a lot every song keeps you into the cd and wonder what redman and mathodman may do next on the cd. they are on top like they were ten years ago with balckout 1. Blackout 2 is classic and keep this with you when you buy it.

(2 stars) - Generic garbage compared to the first album
I had been waiting for this album for years, so I pre-ordered it and was excited as hell when I received it, only to be hugely disappointed. All of the funk and memorable beats of the first album are gone. The production isn't as bad as on "Tical 0", but somehow more generic. Erick Sermon and Mathemathics didn't have anywhere near as much involvement on this album as they did on the first, and it shows. None of the new producers has a decent track on the album.

Even most of the lyrics aren't up to par. Redman and Method Man are still good, but half of the songs are generic club tracks and it shows in the theme of the songs. You won't find anything like Cereal Killer on this one. Ghostface, Erick Sermon and Keith Murray give solid contributions, but they can't save the album from the generic, shoddy production and lame, forgettable beats. Hopefully they bring back the funk on "Blackout! 3", like Method Man did with "4:21 - The Day After", because "Blackout! 2" was a big disappointment.

(5 stars) - True Hip Hop Lives On
I had the pleasure of seeing Red and Meth in concert in Philly in November 2008. They were so on point it was ridiculous kinnda like this album. This is the second best Hip Hop release of 08 after Q-Tip's The Renaissance. Meth and Red having amazing breath control, their rhymes are tight and creative and they have matured very well as a duo. This album is a great follow up to The Blackout. Too bad they didnt get much press or air time.
