Product Details Recorded live in concert at the legendary Meadowlands Arena in New Jersey, this is the most sought after Sinatra concert recording. Housed in a striking package and presented with a 24 page collectors' book of rare photos and extensive notes by long-time Sinatra associate Hank Cattaneo, this previously unreleased recording features 21 digitally remastered songs on one compact disc.
Product Reviews (5 stars) - Frank Sinatra---Live Great live performance recorded late in Mr. Sinatra's career. Even in this large venue, he still has IT!
(3 stars) - It's Over And Tough To Let Go I am a Sinatraphile and this CD is a disappointment. However, given that it was his last recorded-live concert it perhaps should be considered a must. Most of the arrangements are new and refreshing. Frank, sad to say, did these past-his-prime appearances because he loved doing them. Period. But the pipes are long gone and he sings with quite limited range. The appeal of the man and the memories of his great musicianship are what filled the arena on this night. He's having fun, knows he really can't deliver like yesteryear, but makes the most of every musical minute. What a guy! Sixty years of giving us the best music America has to offer and it landed in every global village on earth. Hail!
(2 stars) - A sadly disappointing performance . . . Anyone who can remember the great Willie Mays trying to catch fly balls for the Mets in the '71 World Series, or an aging Muhammed Ali trying to resurrect his skills against Larry Holmes, or "Mr. Colt" Johnny Unitas playing long after he should've hung up his shoulder pads, will understand why listening to "Live At The Meadowlands" was such a sad and shocking disappointment to this inveterate Frank Sinatra fan. There comes a time when the lights need be turned off because the party's over - sadly Frank missed the cue on this one and stayed too long. It reminds me of his other great fiasco, his "'Ol Blue Eyes is Back" album, recorded after being in retirement for 6 years and admittedly after he'd not vocalized for that entire 6 year period. On "Live At The Meadowlands", Frank's voice is harsh, badly worn and not tuneful in the least. His timing, once the envy of the recording industry, is off the beat and too often forced. He just never gets into "the pocket" where he lived for so many decades. Saddest of all is the fact that he was completely out of sync with his rather raucous audience, who seemed not to understand the proper time to cheer and when to keep silent. Frank's efforts at humor were stale and his banter confusing - a sort of mishmash of his then 50 year career that was disconnected from his audience and missing the mark consistently. My recommendation is to skip this performance entirely and buy "Live at the Sands" with the Count Basie Orchestra with arrangements by Quincy Jones. I had to listen to "Sands" several times to wash the awful "Meadowlands" sound from my memory.
(5 stars) - Skntra stars again!+ Great album!! Those who say Michael Jackson was the greatest singer of the last century are guilty of BLASPHAMY! He's not even in the same league as Frank!
(5 stars) - i'll always smile again i always prefer frank in a "live" situation..the overture the anticipation in the audience. not one dud song; an amazing huge swingin orchestra and this album gives "at the sands" a run for its money..timeless and an immortal singer !!
