| Step2 Bookcase Storage Chest |
|
Product Details This handy storage chest and bookshelf will house toys and games and stuffed animals galore, and also provide a nifty bookcase for storing toddler's reading literature. It is sturdy and will provide storage for years. Easy assembly by an adult. It has a back panel in the bookcase to prevent books and other items from falling off the back side of the unit.
Product Reviews (3 stars) - They have redesigned this-- for the worse! Please take a close look at what you're buying. It is no longer the one-piece unit. This storage chest was redesigned by Step 2, and I wish it hadn't been! There are two main problems now-- first is that the bookshelf is not as deep, which means it can store only small books. Don't know about you, but about half of my daughter's books are fairly big hardcovers. They won't fit.
The other problem is that it now comes in two pieces that you have to screw together. I was really surprised to see that when you assemble it, the two screws simply stick out into the toybox... there is no covering over them, so if your child reaches in or climbs in, they could get hurt on these screws. For purely aesthetic reasons, I also prefer the one-piece design.
I don't have the old model to compare it to, but I am told the plastic is also flimsier in the new model. I know that I can actually see through the white plastic (I can tell what toys are inside it), so that doesn't give me a whole lot of confidence.
All that said, I still prefer it to most other toyboxes. The toybox is roomy and cute. My 2-year-old has no problem opening it or reaching her books off the shelf, and even though I'm annoyed that it's not deep enough, I'm glad there is a shelf anyway.
(5 stars) - ~*~*~Doesn't take up much space but holds a LOT of toys, very sturdy~*~*~ My girls are 11 months old & share a room so I wanted something sturdy, that didn't take up too much space but also fit a lot of toys & this toy box is BETTER than what I wanted.
I don't even see how they could tip this thing over, especially once it is filled with toys. Both my husband and I have tried to see if it would tip if we pulled on it and it barely moved. Plus, the way it is shaped would make it hard to tip. And I don't think it would even be possible to wear this thing out, it is tough, not flimsy at all as some other plastic ones I have seen, yet when my girls have accidently banged their heads into it, it really doesn't hurt.
This holds a TON of toys. It doesn't seem like it would hold so many since the footprint isn't that big but it is amazing how many toys it holds.
The lid can NOT fall and trap your child inside...if they manage to somehow do that I'd be completely surprised. Once you lift the lid it slips back & out of the way, it is sturdy but not too heavy. The bottom of the lid has an opening so when it is shut it can NOT smash fingers.
Once the lid is up, the front of the box is low enough that my girls can reach inside & grab a few toys. You do have to keep a VERY close eye on young children because my girls have tried to grab a toy too far away and fell inside the toybox a couple of times. They can NOT get out themselves. They did NOT get hurt but it did scare them. I always sit right beside them when they are trying to get toys(they enjoy it a lot) If I ever do leave the room for any amount of time I ALWAYS close the lid so they can't accidently fall in. This is in NO way a fault of the toybox!!
Leaving books on the shelf would be unsafe for my girls at this time, so until they are old enough I put some of their stuffed animals on the book shelf(they really enjoy pulling them down) The flat top shelf is perfect. We put our daughters lamp on it, it is completely out of their reach, plus we were able to hide the cord/outlet in behind this toybox. I also put an alarm clock & radio on the top shelf.
This wipes down super easily too.
We are SO Happy with this toybox!! I was lucky and found mine used for less than 1/2 the price of a new one(just like brand new condition too) and mine is 1 solid piece. I think the new ones are 2 seperate pieces but from what I have read they are still just as sturdy. Even if I hadn't found a used one I still would have payed full price.
(5 stars) - step 2 bookcase storage chest I just bought this for my 2 year old twins. I hard a hard time finding something big enough to store all their toys and wanted something that would hold all their books too and I found that in this chest. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this toy chest. It's big enough to hold everything. My twins even jumped in the chest and had fun playing in it. It was so easy to put together and the lid is easy to move up & down. Best purchase we made. The box was a big hit too.
(5 stars) - Perfect for 1 year old twins The lid on this thing lifts up and slides back so its impossible for it to collapse down on your child. Being that mine like to climb in and play with their toys, it is just AWESOME! The thing is incredibly stable...havent seen anything else around like it, its perfect for their age and size and will continue to grow with them until they are about 4 (I anticipate).
HIGHLY Recommended!
