As far as the plot goes, the writers didn't waste much time--it's really just a context for the giant-robot death matches and dramatic slow-mo sequences. The movie kicks off two years later where the Autobots have formed an alliance with the U.S. government, creating an elite team led by Major Lennox (Josh Duhamel), in an effort to snuff out any remaining Decepticons that show up. The bad guys keep coming, and it turns out that a much more menacing force than Megatron is out there--and it is looking for something on Earth that is tied to the very origin of the Transformers race. Fans of the franchise will be delighted by the addition of many new robot characters (there are well over 40 in the sequel, versus only 13 in the first). The second Transformers has shaped up to be one of the worst reviewed and most successful movies of all time. This strange pairing is really just an indication that this movie has one purpose: to entertain. The creators didn't want to waste time bogging down the action and drama with substance--which was arguably a good decision. --Jordan Thompson

(5 stars) - Great movie and soundtrack
This is a great movie. I saw it in the theater and couldn't wait for it to come out on DVD. The soundtrack is awesome also. I actually preferred this movie to the first Transformers movie. Highly recommend it to anyone who even somewhat enjoyed the original.

(3 stars) - Rent, and watch the action scenes.
Michael Bay can make some great explosions. He has trouble creating a meaningful plot. Rent this movie, skip the scenes with racial stereotype bots, and watch the fight scenes in the beginning and in the end of the film. You will have just barely gotten your money's worth.

(2 stars) - Just OK and Not nearly as good as the first
So, I am one of the few people who grew up watching the Transformers cartoons in the 80's and actually liked the first live-action movie in this series. I bought this sequel without seeing it at the theater despite all the criticism I'd read. Well, I have to say that they made some very poor decisions in the writing department. Whereas with the first movie it was fairly safe to have our young son watch this movie is riddled with out-of-place, awkward and unnecessary expletives that seem like they were added to the script just for the sake of having them. I am not a prude in any sense but even I was put off by the very awkward inclusion of expletives. On top of that are the stereotypical and racially insensitive new Autobot twins. Even still Optimus Prime says things that seem very out of character. Overall, the movie is OK with nice special effects and a few new characters but the movie is not anywhere near on par with the first film in the story or dialogue departments. Unfortunately, this is not a movie I see myself watching repeatedly as I did with the first film.

I thoroughly enjoyed this action movie. It was by far as good as the first movie and maybe even better. I would highly recommend this movie for those who like science fiction action moview.

(2 stars) - too many bad humor and bad story
The main story isn't that good, the Decepticons now have perfect infiltrators and a satellite, no way the Autobots could do anything but they still win in the end. The Egyptian like Decepticon has nice design but he doesn't scare anybody. And this weak humor : Sam's mother smoking weed, the dumb autobot brothers, the big Decepticon having bollocks ... really make it feel like a comedy rather than an action movie but it doesn't succeed at any. It's barely saved by insane SFX and great cinematography.
The Blu-ray image is awesome, making the action sequences really impressive and Megan Fox and Isabel Lucas are out of this world. Sound is detailed and well balanced in the 5+1.
