Product Reviews (4 stars) - Best value in Internet Radios For some reason, this item in Electronics, which has "Internet Radio" in the name, does not come up in a search of Electronics for "Internet Radio". (Perhaps this is because it is not sold by Amazon directly.)
This might help to explain why the best value in Internet Radios has so few reviews and attention.
The advantages of this product:
- Easy setup. Those who have default network setups should have their networks recognized automatically by the software. Those "geeks" who have customized network settings will want to use the manual setup. TIP - if it is not connecting or you get an error message, reset to factory settings and try again (that worked for me).
- Excellent sound quality for a small tabletop radio with one speaker. I also own an Eton Sound 100, which is an audiophile tabletop radio without the Internet aspect, which some prefer to the Tivoli (which I have not heard), and this Oxx product has better sound quality than the Eton.
- Works reliably (although I have only used the product for a few days). If you read the Amazon reviews of the competing, more expensive products, all the other ones seem to be subject to glitches and web site failures. People list the fact that this is not a "Reciva" radio as a disadvantage, but it also seems clearly an advantage as well, since all the complaints are about Reciva's software and web site. The Internet Radio software for this radio and its web site seem to work every time.
- Despite being "V-tuner" instead of "Reciva", this has every Internet Radio station that I have ever listened to (and I have been listening to Internet Radio since they first appeared). There was one channel not in the list, and when I suggested it to the web site, I received an email within less than 24 hours mentioning that it was in the list, but misspelled - and thanked me for bringing that to their attention.
- In the meanwhile, when I thought the one station was not in their list, I was able to add the URL to "My Added Stations" on the web site, and it was immediately available on my radio. So, if you have a URL, you should be able to listen on this radio.
- Although there are only 4 preset buttons, you use the web site to add any station to your own Favorite lists, which are easy to access on the radio.
- No dropouts or buffering on the Internet Radio stations. The wireless connection was solid.
- FM worked fine and has good sound quality. (I have not yet tested the reception of distant channels.)
- Backlight brightness can be specified for both the powered on and the powered off states (although the minimum setting is still a little too bright, but much less so than most clock radios).
- Volume is controlled by a KNOB, much easier than the usual up and down buttons.
- Software updates can be done over the internet right on the radio, no USB or laptop is needed.
- Overall good quality, especially in the controls.
Disadvantages (some of these may also be shared by competing products):
- No remote (not surprising at this price level).
- No support for internet music that can only be accessed by logging into a web site, such as Pandora or Live365. (This still leaves thousands of internet radio stations that can tuned.)
- No artist/title information. This is simply because it is not implemented in the software - there is no reason that it could not be added in future software, if they are willing. (So be sure to suggest it in an email!)
- Buttons are hard to distinguish in the dark. There are a row of nine almost identical buttons, and one eventually learns which is which, but putting them in different places or different sizes and shapes would have been helpful (but admittedly more expensive).
- More than four preset buttons would have been helpful (at least they are reused for each mode - FM, Internet, Player, etc.).
- Sleep button would have been helpful (you have to select it in the menu system). At least they realized that snooze must be a button, so when the alarm goes off, the main big knob functions as a snooze button.
- Like most (all ?) internet radios, too many things are selected in the menu system, rather than using buttons.
Conclusion:
If you want a good sounding tabletop Internet Radio, you do not need Pandora or Live365, and you are on a budget, consider the OXX Digital "Classic Internet Radio".

(4 stars) - Attractive, quite easy to use, sound good not great Agreeing with other reviewers -- the OXX is attractive, easy to set up, has good
navigation through 10,000+ stations, connects easily to Wi-Fi and my Windows Media
collection (access to WMA as well as MP3). Rates 4-1/2 stars. Sound is
a bit 'muffled' as high frequencies share cone with bass-ported mono speaker.
But headphones reveal very good stereo. I bought as a gift, immediately ordered
a second for myself. A real bargain.
(5 stars) - This is really a classic. This is one great radio. I wish I came across it before purchasing my Grace 1000. It does all I need and at half the price. The sound is good. I was able to get it functional in about five minutes. Yes it does not have all the whistles and bells i.e Pandora Sirius radio and etc but its serve my needs. I am glad I purchased this radio. I would recommend as a BUY.
(5 stars) - Excellent product I found this fm/internet/DAB wifi radio discounted in a ALDI supermarket in Delft, The Netherlands, bought it and installed the Danish made OXX in my kitchen. I was amazed by the functionality, the ease, and yes, the sound. I updated the firmware and found radio stations in every corner of the world. I connected to my local network: OXX found my NAS & music folder immediately and started playing my MP3's and WMA files. I like the thing so much that I ordered an OXX on Amazon for my girlfriend in Brooklyn, NY
(4 stars) - OXX Classic 600 Good Buy! I have 2 of these. The size, weight, finish is on par with Grace 1000. I bought thinking these were Reciva based. They are not. They are Frontier Silicon (V-Tuner) based radios. Fast and easy set up with quick connection speed. The speaker is same size as Grace 1000. Sound is similar but perhaps not as full. I like this radio a lot. It is basic and at present does not recieve Aupeo, Pandora, Sirius, Live365, etc. But for the price it is a good V-Tuner radio. Beautiful finish.
