Before buying this drive look at the list of failed drives. Mine worked fine for a couple months then failed.

(2 stars) - Died in 5 months
Excellent external drive that stayed in the same location until it went DOA in less than 5 months. The drive was used to house my 750 GB MP3 collection that took lots of time to compile. Needless to say, I lost all the MP3 music stored on the drive. Seagate did quickly replace the drive under warranty. I'm going to sell the replacement while it's still in the wrapper. Interested-let me know!!!!!!!

(2 stars) - Dubious "5-year" warranty
Just a note if you care about the warranties part of a deal...

The warranty covers 5 years for the drive, yes, but 1 year for "all components other than the drive."

Is it just me or does that sound like a mere 1-year warranty?

Since it's fully enclosed, I guess you'd have to trust Seagate's assessment on where the fault lies. And since this is an external product, you just can't say "ok, please repair the drive part of the product and forget about the USB-SATA board/AC-adapter... I'm gonna save some $$$ and put it inside my PC to use as an internal drive from now on."

Also, maybe I got a bad unit or something. It hums quite loudly and vibrates noticeably compared to my WD 1.5TB (Green Power), although the WD seems to run warmer. Can someone kindly comment about your experience? I might be returning this for another WD Green drive and buy an enclosure separately.

Work right out of the box, plug and play, up and running in 5-10 minutes solved my space issues immediately.

(2 stars) - Great size, but NOT very rugged.
When I got this drive I was impressed with the size, the ease of installation, and the speed. As I used it, however, I found that many of the files I "backed up" were "corrupt" when I tried to open them on my other computer. The biggest issue happened yesterday, however -- the drive got pulled off the table onto a storage box (a drop of about 15 inches). The drive is now dead. Now granted, a drive shouldn't have to withstand a drop -- but it's still disappointing.
