Linksys WRT610N Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router

Product Details

Linksys Ultra RangePlus, Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router The Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router is really four devices in one box. First, there's the dual-band Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100/1000 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together at up to gigabit speeds. The Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. We've also included a Storage Link that lets you easily add gigabytes of storage space onto your network using readily available USB 2.0 hard drives -- or plug in a USB flash disk for a convenient way to access your portable data files. The built-in Media Server streams music, video, and photos from the attached storage device to any UPnP compatible media adapter. And you can get to your files from anywhere in the world through the Internet. The Access Point built into the Router uses a dual-band version of the very latest wireless networking technology, Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios for each band, Wireless-N's "Multiple In, Multiple Out" (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless coverage area. The robust signals travel farther, maintaining wireless connections much farther than standard Wireless-G.

Product Reviews

(4 stars) - Good simultaneous dual-band wireless router
Pros:
Never drops connection. Gigabit wired ethernet ports. Simultaneous dual-band allows for separating bandwidth for different purposes. 5Ghz band is great for media streaming, while the 2.4Ghz band can be used for general web surfing or other purposes. If you have guests and don't want to give them your security settings, you can assign simpler, separate, security settings to the 2.4Ghz band for them to use temporarily. An on/off switch. Good connection speed.

Cons:
Install tries to convince the user that they NEED Network Magic to setup/configure the router. The basic version is free, but the pro is not. Network Magic is not necessary to configure the product and I prefer the web-based setup anyway. I installed Network Magic only to uninstall it shortly thereafter because it is very 'noisy' with its popups and constant offers upgrade to the pro version. When using the 2.4Ghz band, it seems to connect only at G speeds(54Mbps)and not N(270-300Mbps). My older wireless adapter worked with my previous wireless router of the same brand at N speeds and the adapter is MIMO capable.

General Comments:
I have yet to use the media share capabilities through the available USB port. I think a better use of the router would be to connect a NAS (Network Attached Storage) to one of the gigabit ports and use that as a media library for a home theater system. Streaming video wirelessly to another device on the local network performed solidly. Other than the pesky Network Magic application, the web-based configuration is easy to manage. Those not familiar with wireless networks should spend a little time becoming familiar with different settings.

(5 stars) - Easy to set up; great operation
Based on reviews on a web site I got from Google (can't remember exact one) and Amazon customer reviews, I selected this router; set up went very smoothly; easily established link to laptop; and easily converted PC Desktop to wireless; have used for about 1 month with no problems

(5 stars) - Solid performance
I have purchased this router from Amazon directly 3 weeks ago. I was able to setup in 5 min. So far, it performed flawlessly. I only had once or twice drop in connection, however, I believe it had more to do with Intel wireless drivers on my laptop than the router. Overall pretty good performance.

(5 stars) - Dual N Band Wireless Router: Linksys
The up to date Dual N Band Router by Linksys meets the stated attributes by the company and it is very simple to set up a protected home network.

(5 stars) - The best router i Had in a long time
When i read the negative reviews i was scared but it was already toO late, i had already bought it. It impressed me, very easy to set up, no hassle what so ever, very fast and no my neighbor gets my internet.
SO DON'T BELIEVE THOSE NASTY, NEGATIVE REVIEWS, TRY YOUR SELF, U WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED, TRUST ME....!!!!!!!!!
