Product DetailsAdele is the UK's latest export along with Amy Winehouse, Joss Stone, Lily Allen, Kate Nash and Duffy. She is part of the British blue-eyed soul movement, attempting an R&B sound on the far side of the Pond. With her Gallic name, Adele is following in the footsteps of Winehouse, Stone, and Duffy. "Chasing Pavements" is,in a way, like chasing pavement. It doesn't go anywhere. (Is she singing about moving sidewalks? And to mind the gap?) It has a pleasant, jazzy sound. Adele has a pleasant voice. The melody is nice enough. Unfortunately, the lyrics are forgettable. It has no soul. Adele lacks Winehouse's angst, Stone's rough edges, and Duffy's passion. There's no spice to it. One ends up sitting on the pavement, listening to it all go by. It's best for ambient music. Product Reviews
